This might have been done with the Steam Workshop. Workshop is Steam's built-in modding utility. Rather than using a browser to go to a third party website to download mods and install them manually, you just click "subscribe" on the mod inside of Steam's app. Anyone can create and upload these mods.Mount & Blade: Bannerlord is a possible culprit, as the game uses .dll files for modding and there are no malware checks done.
