The runners don't know at what TIME the race ends, so now suddenly you got "conflict" and "tactics" between the runners, and even teams of runners.If you got 2 teams of 2 runners, the speed VS distance guys are still under pressure to figure out the weakness of other team, etc.THAT could get people betting in foot races, and hence create new class of high paid "pros" in running.Only thing is gotta figure out some cool but random way to determine the end, but should be truly random over maybe a 5 minute span.Could add a few quirks, like a Death Race where the gun going off means there is 20 seconds to go before race ending shot.Whether its going to be a warning shot race or not could also be random.Runners would need to consider how much they keep "in the tank" for finishing sprint.There would be "gamesmanship" of staying just ahead of competition.You are racing against other runners, not "against the clock", so suddenly you got drama.
