i wish i didnt take the 90s-00s for granted the world is a nightmarish hellhole and always has been, but this era was like a brief respite, now i imagine things will go back to normal. I recently read two back to back books directly or adjacently involving the 30 years war and man it was a stark reminder of how awful the world actually is and that there is no escape no matter which "side" you pick
