I have a hard time seeing how it could've worked at all.Africa is a massive place with awful infrastructure. While there's raw resources and shit, it's not a good place to get successful. That might change in the future but we aren't there yet. That's why Asia is filled to the brim with developing success stories.

It's a typical west african nation, no more or less successful than its neighbors.Same is true of Haiti btw. People compare it to its hispanic neighbors and wring their hands over why its poorer. It's not actually poorer than Liberia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, etc. It fits right in alongside those countries socially/economically.It's a little piece of west Africa that happens to be located in America for historical reasons.
