You should be careful with realism. It doesn't have a good track record as a predictive model. In fact, that's true in general of models in the field of international relations. It's such a "soft" field of study that there's research showing that laymen who are well informed on world events have the same success rate in their predictions as the international relations scholars. I'm not saying it's completely useless, but just keep that in mind.
