Punishment was he was found standing guard in someone else's place while that someone was sneaking off to see a girl.Anyways, he said it was the best time of his life, or at least the easiest, since for a couple months he for the first time in his life didn't have to do any real work, mental or physical, beyond basic housekeeping along with his barracks mates. He said the food was better than in the army, and except for a few small areas with actual convicted criminals it was basically wide open, much more so that any military base or camp. Pretty much like a college. He said it was at most only 1/2 Jews. He was there in early 1944. Said he'd rather have stayed, and they were pushing a line that it was his duty to get back to his unit, and also getting wise to the fact lounging with a bunch of Jews was a lot better than serving in the army, even in behind the lines out of direct combat.He said most of the Jews were dislikable and repulsive, but a few were OK.Yes, he was in The Showers frequently along with everyone else, and since the Kamp was basically wide open there was no way in hell anyone was getting "gassed", and certainly not in the middle of the day with thousands of Jews and others milling around, with mostly nothing but free time to socialize.Thots?
