Tolerance or toleration is not a virtue. Being tolerant or nonjudgmental does not make you a good person. And tolerance does not mean acceptance.Tolerance entered political discourse thanks to 17th century English philosopher John Locke's writings. The concept 'toleration' Locke was discussing was about suffering the existence of your enemies because that is often the lesser evil to going to war against them. The historical context in which Locke was writing was the wars of religion caused by the Protestant Reformation. Locke posited that European Christians ought not kill each other over their theological differences. He was not writing about Muslims or blacks or fags or communists. But now, tout d'un coup, we have lefties pretending that we have a moral imperative to tolerate x, y, z. And by 'tolerate' they don't actually mean 'tolerate', they mean coddle, embrace and defend. And if you don't do these things, you're a bad person according to these mushheads out there.
