It's not about the Greeks not being the real Greeks, Odysseus didn't even want to go to war initially in the Iliad but he was the one that created the Oath of Tyndareus to stop people fighting over Helen after she picked someone so he could get Penelope. Paris not only took Helen (after Helen was forced to love Paris by Aphrodite) Paris also stole a lot of treasure from Menelaus as well, and Agamemnon used that insult to both his families honor and the violation of the law of hospitality to go to war, Agamemnon was also power hungry so it was more of an excuse to use the oath that a lot of the Greek kings, princes and royalty took (oath of Tyndareus) to get build his army to take down Troy. As with a lot of Greek myths, humans are just pawns in the games of the gods, it's not about "the Greeks aren't the real Greeks", they are usually a bunch of circumstances that fuck over humans because of the actions of the gods (in this case Athena, Hera and Aphrodite going to Paris to have him judge which was the fairest, and all three of them bribing him with different things, Aphrodite bribing him with making the most beautiful woman fall in love with him, and as a young horny teenage he picked that and chose Aphrodite for the eternal anger of Athena and Hera).
