Boomers are like cattle. I remember sitting next to a particularly chatty boomer on a flight right after the IPO. He was so smug about his investment, although he clearly understood nothing about what Space X does. It didn't matter. He was a believer, a Muskovite. He was recently retired, and he bet heavy.

I wonder if his faith in Elon is still stronger than ever.

It pumped, so the people who aren't retarded decided to sell. This caused a panic among retarded and semi-retarded people so they decided to sell too; sell to the guys who sold at the peak, doubling their share holdings without any cost to themselves.

Well of course, a properly designed IPO will produce an artificial shortage:
>release fewer shares than there is demand for, ensuring that it pumps briefly as people fight over the limited number of shares
Those who held shares previously may then decide to throw in some of their own at the peak; but in any case disillusionment will set in because people realise that the shares aren't randomly worth three times their original IPO value; in other words the people running the operation aren't fucking retarded like they are themselves. This comes as a big shock; how could Elon betray them by basically doing nothing?! Time to sell at a loss.
And a corporation with these dynamics, that has already collected massive sums of "private" investor money, naturally will only release a tiny fraction of non-voting shares as float. It's purely a means of making money (since private investors have gotten tired of it).

The purpose of individual shares isn't owning the business; that's when you own 10-20% at least. The business is irrelevant. It could be a potato farm that somehow people were conned into believing is worth billions because of farmer Bill's magic powers.
>it's a game about investor confidence
The supposed stock market value is largely independent of reality - it's what "people" (want [you] to) believe the business could be worth (in the near future).
>I made it up
At a small scale these shares aren't meant to be held (and in fact this entire IPO is meant to be non-holding shares) but to be traded (and produce some cash for SpaceX).
>and that's what they do
They set it up to pump, for suckers to fight over shares, and then, when they reaped those suckers, the value normalised somewhat.
>>
>>539341387
>Admitting that the stock is literally just a pyramid scheme
Stocks hold actual value because of dividends or influence in a company, if they have neither they're literally as valuable as NFTs and there's no intrinsic reason to invest in them as their value is wholly detached from reality.

>AI is next along with chip manufacturers that won't get paid.
This. OpenAI and Anthropic were setting up to IPO soon, musk got to the exit first with his satellite rocket company with a twitter chatbot duct taped to it. The IPO was valued at 100 times annual earnings, fuckin insanity even by silicone valley standards. Inbetween Musk fellation sessions tech and stock writers were saying that 300, 500 hell even 900 dollar share prices were reasonable price points. Anything and everything is so over leveraged right now, anything less than a 10x is an unmitigated failure.
OpenAI and Anthropic needed an IPO because private funding is nearly tapped out and they're running out of money. They are burning cash like never before with nothing to show for it but hollow promises and empty bags. Now not only OpenAI and Anthropic, but Google, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft are looking around for sources of capital to pay for for chips and infastructure because they cant slow down. They have to be the one that outruns the tiger. Even if all their hopes and dreams for AI being the ultimate Jeet tool of human workforce replacement comes true, they can't all win. The mad scramble for the lifeboats will get ugly. And even the lifeboats rely on printing trillions more M2 to cover Quadrillions of derivatives, in a time when Treasury bonds are getting more worthless by the day.
Who knows exactly how it will play out, but the ending will be the same.
You will be poorer, the Kikes will continue to rape and eat children, shitskins will keep being imported.

You are not wrong where "investment" is concerned.
Buying low and selling high isn't investment, it's trade, or speculation.
"Manipulating the market" to overvalue your product (including shares, or an entire business) also isn't investment - in fact none of the speculative value of a business is investment grade:
A business always has a real value, which may not be widely known, or at least not known accurately, but within a range, and while public shares may embody or reflect this value they would miss part of their (modern) purpose.
>you don't need to trade shares at the stock market for them to represent a tiny fraction of business ownership
Exposing them to the "free market" is purely a vehicle of inflating the value beyond the true value of the business, and by extension: to reap suckers.
>convince the unwashed masses the business/shares are worth way more or will rise BIGLY
>them believing this and buying shares is what actually causes said rise
>self-fulfilling prophecy causes even more suckers to jump on the bandwagon and buy the peak
>eventually people with some business acumen will decide to cash in on their grossly overvalued shares because obviously they will crash eventually
>after which they can buy them back for cheap if they feel like it
>this makes the rise stagnate or produces/accelerates the crash, as more people scramble to sell as the drop picks up - they lost confidence the value is justified
>for many it's too late and they are stuck footing the bill
Pyramid scheme is a fair analogy, within certain limits.
A static overvalued share value, for instance, isn't all that useful.
>it's meant to be cashed in on and produce a normalisation
If nobody would do this, well, you're just looking at imaginary numbers forever without consequence (assuming the real business is static).

Cool, IPO price is irrelevant. It spiked afterwards and has been tanking since. Your logic is like saying "the company is only down 10% ytd" when the company is down 25% over two months. The trend is clearly going down and hard now that the rubes are done buying it.

>It dipped to 150 this is a steal
>It dipped to 130 buy the dip
>It dipped to 110 there should be a crime against getting stock this cheap

Also buying the dip suggests you know the stock will recover like an overvalued stock of a company with growing profits returning to mean. SpaceX has no profit or real plan towards profitability, it's purely a meme stock.
>>
>>539344036
It's just the nature of the mass market.
Once the normies become involved and stock trade became a common commodity this outcome was inevitable.
>convince horde of normies to invest (on Reddit)
>this pumps share price
>pump convinces more normies to invest
>we're going to the moon, bro
>big stake holders with some brains decide to cash in
>sell to normies at peak, however much they are willing to absorb and then some
>pump stagnates, market saturated, value declines
>PANIC.TIFF
>same normies start selling en masse
>stake holders buy back the shares they sold for half the price, stabilizing market
They are playthings in the hands of big stake holders.

>>
>>539344199
Not that this is necessarily fatal long term, as the shares may be worth 200+ in a year or five or never.
Diamond hands isn't always foolish, with a relatively stable share. Foolish if it fluctuates wildly, though, and there's no long-term upward trend.
It can also compensate for losses, say if the share only reaches 140 later on. Still below your original purchase (10 loss), but the profit on later purchases makes up the balance.
>just don't forget to sell

Yes there is a concerted effort now to get small time normies to invest their money in the stock market. They are literally runnign television adverts doing just that in the UK. These idiots who fall for it don't know that hedge funds run the markets and the normie individual would be far better off putting their money in property. But what can you do, suckers will always be attracted by the prospect of getting rich without working for it.

>>

>bro just buy property
what kind of middle class drivel is this
>>
>>539345283
Well that's the thing: if you're working class: consider first working to acquire some wealth.
When you're middle class you can consider letting the wealth work for you.
And I say this mainly in reference to stocks, in fact.
>just work the trades harder bro, muh bootstraps bro, be frugal and live in a van bro, you'll be rich in no time bro
If you're small time your only option is to actually trade actively, not larping as a bag holder. You have nothing you could "invest". 5000 in stocks aren't an investment. Instead you actually have to dedicate some time and effort to your trading, buy and sell dynamically, go where volatility is high, and cash in on those 5% gains again and again, not buy a fond and get 1.5% per year.
After a few years of that you'll be in the 5-6 digits and can begin to contemplate grander schemes.
