Fight club and American psycho but only if you watch the movie instead of reading the book and also if you completely miss the point.

Reading is just a different way to masturbate. Anything ypu could possibly ever want to know is available streamlined and easily accessible on your phone or plenty of other media. You dont need some dull book where the author drones on and on you can have the gestalt/synthesised i formation distilled down to a few sentences or paragraph at most.
Its like here and the /pol/ approved books, sure you can read Mein Kampf or Camp if the Saints but everything those books talk about are daily conversations here.
It seems like such a waste of time, there are much more important things to focus on instead of reading 50+ year old books or greek philosophers when their big treatise is something you already account for because its basic knowledge now.
Anytime I read a /pol/ book I skimmed it because its already shit that I learned from here, maybe a few passages are structured nicer than an anon post but the take away is all the same.

I guess this is implied but I mean non fiction in this post.
Fiction/pulp is completely different because there is no information to impart.

1984.
Some anons hate on it because it's too "basic" and too well known, but I prefer the word "essential".

1984 was really about the UK in 1948.

Yeah, its called story construction. If a book does not impart knowledge directly, it is a narrative. Narratives have certain constructions that follow a framework that the human psyche has become accustomed too. The psyche is able to be reflect in these stories and vice versa, the prime example being "the hero's journey".
Narratives can impart knowledge, but it isn't direct, it's through carefully curated scenarios within the narrative in an effort to get the point across (as the narrative is a reflection of the human psyche, the human psyche can take actions of the various characters and apply them to real life events). Simply put, narratives are the same few ideas and constructions stylized by different authors primarily for enjoyment of the reader.
I agree with you, btw, for the most part. I agree that the ideas talked about here can allow one who hasn't read the books (non-narratives) to participate in conversations about the ideas contained in the books.
However, while not necessary, I think everyone should read or at least familiarize themselves with the original work so that they will know if they're being lied to, which is what really "reading it yourself" is for, to make sure the synopsis that are told to you are true and not lies perpetuated for someone else's gain.
