The LQ4 is more durable, easier to repair, cheaper, and more powerful. The six cylinder may be attractive in some ways mechanically but not appreciably so. Not enough to outweigh the fact you are trying to squeeze that power from a 3.0L engine. But if you want to expand to non production setups I will take a stroked crate 350SBC with a mild cam and vortec heads + a tremec five speed as the optimal setup.
