The Tsar was a mental weakling. How do you not realize you are slipping power and send your family away somewhere remote to safety. Why did he keep them close when he was under threat of coup. If you are not feeling safe, you send part of your family away to remote place so that clan survives even in case of palace coup. It's a story of mental weaklings indecisiveness killing his family.
