One thing the non-initiated don't understand, is that scientists who are running an experiement often invent their own units of measure. Because when you're observing and counting something, you want things to be as convenient as possible so you get an accurate observations.Like let's say I'm doing a vaccum test on a diode or something. The light comes in flashes, I'm standing there with a clipboard observing. I'm gonna count in terms of "flashes" and then rate those flashes on a 4 point scale for intensity, and add a little tilde if it sputtered. I'm not like, measuring the number of joules of each flash, and then writing 1.3x10^-6 joules on my clipboard each time. I mean hell, if you did something like that your results would likely be tossed anyway. You can invent any scale of measure you want which is convenient to your situation. You can meaure in terms of wheat, snakes, toothpicks....whatever is convenient to the situation.Then you do the arduous work of converting to standard units. Then you mash everything out calculationwise.While standard units are useful for calculating things, they aren't as useful for actually measuring things by hand. As I explained, not even scientist do that. For this reason, the public who's out there in the world interacting with their environment, would be best served by units of measure that are intuitive and comfortable to them. That would he the imperial system, which evolved organically for this purpose.The one improvement that can be made is, why does the metric system have a monopoly on prefixes? Like why can't I use Kilo-feet, mega-feet...etc? Are people really too dense to parse that?
