Because Japanese have been hyped here as some bastion of traditions and virtues for far too long. Mainly because of anime obsession, but also due to many people here finding comfort in the idea of an autistic micro-managed state existing somewhere beyond the ocean. This fanboyism has become quite annoying - "Japan is honourary Aryan", "No, it is actually white!", "Jews fear the samurai!", "American cowboys are actually samurai of the West", "Japan was the victim of America in WW II" and all other kinds of bullshit. People just got tired of this flamboyant vocal crowd and are calling them out on it. Weebs, not used to seeing their holy cow being criticized in any way let alone attacked, have no idea how to handle this situation and so they throw a hissy fit.
