BRRRRT is short for "Bolstering Recognition, Resurgence, Retention, and Remembrance of the Thunderbolt"

Considering that our oldest flying KC-135 airframe is from fucking 1957 I'd say yeah some planes are a solved problem, and for CAS something tough that we already own like an A-10 is preferable to heaping yet another mission on the flying combination oven-microwave-television-hairdryer-jump jet-fighter plane-EWA-fuck robot F-35 platform that it will be pretty good but not great at for only 3x the price of keeping an A-10 flying

>>
>>539474579
I believe what they're suggesting is go put a Predator brain and radio stack in the cockpit instead of a meat dude. Keep flying the plane, but remotely. Actually that's a great idea for CAS which puts pilots in much more danger. If you deem the A/C as reusable but attritable for certain mission profiles it lets you do epic shit on demand.

Exactly.
>>
>>539473438
If anything it should be properly mothballed and kept in a near ready state in case a technical upgrade can make it relivant in a modern combat airspace just like we should have with the OV-10 fleet. The truth is most of its mission could be performed more effectively by newer dedicated aircraft. An broader AC-130 fleet would provide better close air support. Especially if it were a mix of conventional gunships and rapid dragon type precision ordinance delivery platforms. Supplemented with things like the Mohave drone. The "brrrrt" is cool, but not as effective as people think it is. Things like the hatchet precision munition are most likely the air support of the future. I know it's not as fun or cool, but it's far more efficient and consistent.

>>
>>539473889
The problem is that we don't see it as something that will be particularly useful in our current and upcoming conflicts. Enemies with plenty of anti air assets, drones, drones, and more drones. The warthog is purpose built for obliterating sand people whose best anti air assets are rusty RPGs. We don't really use it without air supremacy and in the coming near peer conflicts we simply won't have it.
>>
>>539473889
Once upon a time. They are defenseless against modern air defenses. They only kicked ass in Iraq because they had no air defense.
The US military is always 20 years behind because thats how long it takes for something to get done in the Pentagon.

They only started drone evasion training last year in US milary basic training. So they cunts like Gen Milley saw the drone war unfold in ukraine for 3 years before they thought hmmmm, maybe somebody should tell the troops.
The levels of incompitence border on treason

>ALL jets are vulnerable to modern, competent AD, which is why everyone does gay standoff munitions from a gorllion miles away.
Yeah even the usual hypemen considered picrel to be a retarded idea because muh supersonic just kind of iteratively got worse.
Nowadays the conversation is about making rockets that can seek out the radar signature so you can actually get in not outrunning detection or response.
It's also not something you can (easily) bring to a UAV because while the signal is obviously fast enough antenna orientation at those speeds gets wonky.
>Just use AI

Nigga, Iran showed you can make it unsafe for over-the-horizon stealth planes to get in effective range, with an AA truck that look out of Temu.
There is no point being the best at a task if you never get the opportunity to do the task.
The BRRRRRT machine is now only good against actually unarmed civilians, anything third world has now a non-null chance to rape it.

In 1970s main threat to high-flying aircraft was missiles and main threat to low-flying aircraft was gunfire.
So A-10 was designed to fly low and absorb gunfire and not worry about missiles.
50 years later, and missiles are lethal to aircraft at all altitudes. So A-10 is no longer survivable on a modern battlefield.
>>
>>539473553

Zog doesnt like this jet they can't use it to bomb targets that can't shoot back. But that being said, the primary weapon is an autocannon which zog also doesn't have the logistics for. Much easier for US MIC to sell them missiles and missile carrying systems.

first battleships now "muh warthog", just accept technology changes and your favorite toys are now obsolete

it is ironic, because we saw technology change so rapidly in ww2 going from biplanes to nukes, yet now apparently adapting to technological change is antiquated thinking, because everything was samey samey from the 1960s through to the 2010s, but no actually things are picking up again with drones and AI and the technology AI will discover

>>
>>539473889
The A-10 is a sitting duck for air defenses, any retard with a manpad can shoot one down, they are really only useful if you have total air dominance. Even a decades old MiG-29 would turn it into a flying coffin
>>
>>539477981
If you think we aren't developing the latest tech while pushing out news like this then you havn't been paying attention.
>>
Realistically?
Its necessary but stupid

The USA has no other effective close air support platform
It's debatable if in a peer conflict such a platform is even viable
In the typical war the USA has waged this century the A10 is too expensive per flying hour

What the USA needs to be doing is evaluating if they could field such a tool in a conflict with say China or Russia. Someone with actual AA capability
And if not then determine what they need to deal with the typical militia the USA has fought (and lost) against elsewhere in the world

The main reason for that is they don't make A10s anymore and the equipment/facilities to make them are gone.
Each of those airframes has had its life extended again and again
They are all past the point of being even remotely safe to fly
A replacement is needed but what that replacement is and needs to be has not even been asked.

I'm sure some meal team six larper faggots in this thread will outline exactly why our combat readiness depends keeping this 90 year old shitbox flying. The truth is that its to give MIGAniggers welfare money. This is a huge political thing for Tucson, AZ (and several other towns with Air Force bases). Liberals don't understand because they didn't grow up in some flyover shithole where the local economy is completely dependent on a military base. Its basically just welfare except chuds hate welfare. If you just mail them a check, they will start shitting pissing and farting themselves into a coma seething about communism or something. They need to be given pointless jobs that destroy the environment to protect their fragile self-esteem.
>>
>>539482638
Meanwhile Russia can make a motorcycle with 80 parts. This war is being won by artillery and glidebombs.
NATO's combined national debt is 60 trillion dollars and skyrocketing. The EU has negative growth. The plan is to give everyone jobs making bombs to drop on Russia while having no real army to defend themselves.
Its suicide.
>>
>>539477047
USAF would have retired it in 90's, because it was obsolete, but certain Arizona senator threw a fit because planes maintenance contractors were locals. After 9/11 it turned out into least bad COIN platform in USAF inventory, there were better platforms around for that shit like super tucano, but it wouldn't have generated enough post retirement cashing out options for staff officers. Now drones are clearly a mature enough technology for the job in reality.
>>
>>539484071
Also worth pointing out that USAF didn't want to operate anything that used props unless it was a cargo plane

Wasn't most if the heavy lifting in the Iraq war done by F16s, while the a10 was mostly busy turning coalition troops into mincemeat in friendly fire incidents or missing their targets completely, hitting friendly troops instead.
>B-but muh maverick missiles
The hornets and F16 carried those too, while being in general much more useful than the A10.
>>
>>539486044
Nah the A10 performed pretty well in Afghan and Iraq once Iraqs limited AA capability was stripped away
They were cheaper and unlike other things could do multiple passes or hit targets for a lot cheaper than F16s thanks to the famous gun
Turns out a gun designed for strafing soviet tank columns is pretty good at shredding light vehicles or most buildings even if you'd be retarded to send it against a tank these days

There were plenty of friendly fire incidents though
Americans aren't known for being bright or good at communication
