Debunking all of the plebbit complaints about data centers:>they use too much waterto dumb it down, the cooling system is closer to a water radiator in your car than something that needs constant fresh water. in a lot of cases it's 0.1-0.3% of the supply (that they use to just clear out the "radiators" in this metaphor).>they use too much electricity!if your government is competent, they will only approve them if there's ample capacity. good city/regional planning should ensure plenty of surplace capacity. many data centers work out a deal where they build a gas pipeline and generate power and so on.>they get a cheaper rate than me on electricity! it's unfair!they get the discount because these places often have redundancies (diesel generators) or like I mentioned the gas turbine. they get cheaper electricity from the grid because the grid needs to be stable. if they get a call to go off the grid during peak hours, they will comply. it's this reason, helping keep the grid stable that the electricity company charges them less.>what the fuck do they need these data centers for anyway!the funniest thing about this is that these people also treat things like smartphones or the internet like magic. it just works. they have no idea what happens when you open up goybook or tikslop. these things all require data centers to store and serve all the data, to do the recommendation systems for your feed and so on. the reason why these services are free is because of the sheer amount of data you generate. you are the product and all of it is stored so that ads can be served to NPCs so corporations make money.
