The thirteenth flight test of Starship is preparing to launch Friday, July 24. The 90-minute launch window will open at 5:45 p.m. CT.The booster’s primary test objective will be executing a successful launch, ascent, stage separation, boostback burn, and landing burn at an offshore landing point in the Gulf of America. There have been several modifications to hardware and software to address issues seen on the previous flight. The Starship upper stage’s primary objectives include the deployment of 20 Starlink V3 satellites, a relight of a single Raptor engine while in space, and another controlled entry, descent, and splashdown in the Indian Ocean. There have also been several modifications to Starship’s propulsion system to address the engine out issue experienced on the previous flight.

For the first time, Starship will carry V3 Starlink satellites to space, which aim to greatly expand the network's capacity and user speeds. As part of this initial test, Starship is planned to deploy 20 satellites which will extend solar arrays and antennas and will attempt to connect with the larger Starlink constellation via high-capacity lasers. The Starlink satellites will be on the same suborbital trajectory as Starship and are expected to demise upon reentry approximately 20 minutes after deployment.Six of the satellites have been modified with a suite of cameras to scan Starship’s heat shield and transmit imagery down to operators to continue testing methods of analyzing Starship’s heat shield readiness for return to launch site on future missions. Several tiles on Starship have been painted white to simulate missing tiles and serve as imaging targets in the test.^wasn't this flight 12?

>>539562961>how they gonna make all the staff millionairesAlready done through the magic of market capitalization and stock options. Note that, like with Elon and other stock-rich people, this isn't even numbers in an account, but prospective income from selling numbers in an account.
>>539563056not sure if that was a fuck up fuck up so far the test is not overbooster was a 80% on my books ( even if it had the correct velocity it would have been splashdown, they plan a splashdown for a reason instead of a tower catch, which they demonstrated already so, anyways ) sattelites were 100% ( i weight this more than the booster reentry desu )lets see how the spaceship reentry will go ( this seems to be 60/40 importance wise with the sat deploy and testing combined )sat and spaceship together against booster launch and reentry would be 70/30 overall from my perception the thing is this is a flight test, number 13, there have been 12 before and there will be some to follow, so yeah, taking THAT into account, everything looks tip topremind me, who else is doing the same stuff ? ah yes, nobody ,right ,thanks for reminding me
>>539562925They stripped out a lot weight and potential redundancy to get the v3 version working, and so far it hasn't restarted properly on both flights with the new version. They aren't going to have a lot of confidence trying to catch it if that doesn't improve.
>>539563346we don't launch rockets in Germany!
>>539563403thats why they do the testing after changing parameters :-)>>539563445not true. but its a good measurement metric of the true capabilities of a economy (industrial capabilities) stuff like that makes the advertisement bubble pop
>>539551739SpaceX means victory
>KM>KM/H
>>539562178It's hard to say what the issue is without their full internal telemetry because of how much shit they're changing about just about everything including maneuvers on a flight by flight basis. It might be as simple as the flip being too severe on these v3 tests as they've both been significantly more aggressive than anything they've attempted with the v2 boosters. The last two flips have looked pretty insane even before you remember how large the object doing a 180 actually is. Then again all booster engines relit just fine for the initial boostback and the outer ring appeared to shut down properly for the continued 13 engine run prior to full shutdown. Maybe the old thermal shielding was contributing more than just heat rejection on the v2 booster. Maybe without the support or maybe a change in harmonics is causing the engines to shake themselves to the point of damage during reentry. I'd kill for a fraction of the full telemetry and camera angles they keep under wraps for every flight.

>>539564016Elon is a jew. We know.
>>539564084
>>539563706Except they were planning to catch both next flight. Bet the confidence isn't high for that now. They also sent a half dozen ships into the Indian ocean by now. Hopefully they are now well past those breaking up over the Caribbean.Seems like slow progress vs. the optimistic bullshit they always talk about. It actually seems to be progressing like an actual engineering program trying to design a massive rocket. There's always so much schedule bullshit from them.

>>539564342Yeah, very cool. Neat to see the heat shield like that.>>539563957Agree - I think they were expecting it to be clean into the gulf on this one. May lower the aggressiveness on the next flight.
missing and damaged tiles spottedshittle 2.0 confirmed
>>539564509Yes. They want to practice a soft landing, but they do it in the ocean where there is nothing to get damaged if things go wrong. So it touches down gently on the water, then just tips over. It usually explodes at this point.
>>539564442>What's upit's probably that obsessed thunderfoot guy samefagging

>>539565103for what should be fairly obvious reason, its usually bad practice to stand directly underneath the thing that you KNOW is falling from space
>>539565147every ocean is the American ocean, thanks to our fleet of supercarriers

>>539566039achshually it has been to space, you don't need to be in orbit in order to be in space. it also achieves orbital velocity every time, demonstrating that it could easily reach orbit if desired; they choose a suborbital trajectory to ensure the ship re-enters quickly and in a known location even if it fails to reignite its engine.

>>539567624no, was nowhere near orbital altitude. Starlinks orbit in LEO, around 500km, that launch reached about 150km max. Them satellites - lifespan 20mins - are trash now. At $1m+ per pop.

>>539568139I'm guessing production lines are already running, might as well do something useful with the first few satellites instead of letting them pile up in a warehouse.
>>539568231Especially to verify that the new design works as intended in space.
>>53956819720 x $1m+ is still a dent in someones CapEx. They COULD HAVE just fried 10 or so, surely.>>539568231>instead of letting them pile up in a warehouse.yeah, SpaceX probably haven't got storage space because all the Cybertrucks shitting up the place.
>>539568139>and I still dunno why they needed to fry like fucking 20 of themBecause they're already in full production and the constraint is starship being ready to go to orbit to get them close enough to their final orbit that they can boost themselves to it, not the manufacture of the satellites themselves. They need to confirm that there are no issues with the deployment mechanism so why risk unforeseen issues by using mass analogues or a less than full load when you already have excess units and excess manufacturing capacity? It's pretty cheap insurance to just toss a full load to make sure they're not going to have a debris nightmare they didn't actually test for once they go for the full circularization burn.
