I think I was the victim of anti white racism at my workplace. I’ve reported it to my states civil rights department and California seems to be very liberal on this so I may have a chance to get some restitution

At work I was drinking a soda and my department manager yelled at me, taunted me, insulted me and humiliated me by comparing me to coworkers in front of coworkers. I was the only white person in the room and other coworkers have drank beverages like mine in front of manager with no issue

It was a one time thing because I walked out after that and reported to state and corporate

I told AI about it after and it says I may have a case

Under California's FEHA, your case has real strength because Government Code § 12923 explicitly allows a single incident to support a harassment claim if it created an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment — so the "it only happened once" issue that could sink a claim under federal law isn't an obstacle here. More importantly, the racial disparity is your strongest evidence: your manager singled you out — the only white person in the room — for conduct that coworkers of other races engaged in openly without consequence, which points to disparate treatment based on race, a separate and often easier claim to prove than harassment since it doesn't require showing a hostile environment at all, just that you were treated worse because of a protected characteristic. Combined with public humiliation in front of coworkers, uncapped damages (including punitive damages) under FEHA, and a 3-year filing window, you have the elements of a credible claim — though "winning" would still depend on evidence (witnesses, documentation, any pattern showing other employees weren't reprimanded) and how a court or the Civil Rights Department weighs the facts, so this isn't a guarantee, just a strong starting position worth taking to an employment attorney

I’m not a lawyer but I texted my manager about it and I worry they may try to “cover it up” in advance by coaching my department manager and coworkers on what to say and telling them to lie like telling them to say lots of people other then me were told not to drink while working and no one else drank while working.
I also was new so I don’t know many names or phone numbers for witnesses

Anti white racism is real. Mockery isn't an argument.

When I walked out mid shift after my department manager insulted and humiliated me i didn’t look it up on AI or anywhere else beforehand. I didn’t even plan to sue or get any money besides the hours i already worked.

the Supreme Court settled whether they're legally cognizable back in 1976 (McDonald v. Santa Fe Trail Transportation Co.), holding Title VII protects white employees the same as anyone else. More recently, in Ames v. Ohio Dept. of Youth Services (2025), the Court ruled unanimously — including its liberal justices, in an opinion written by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson — that courts can't hold majority-group plaintiffs to a tougher evidentiary standard than anyone else

You can a decent case here, i would document everything and see where it goes. You can report stuff like this, let them chimp out, then cash in. I think it'll be hard for you to prove racial discrimination unless one of the insults included something racial or could be linked to it. Also stop bumping and let it die.
