California has "unlocked" a new type of housing: building shacks in people's back yards and selling them for half a million dollars.
>San Jose just became the first city in California to unlock a new kind of housing.
>Under a new law, the South Bay city saw its first accessory dwelling unit, colloquially called an ADU, sold as a condo unit on an existing property this month. The unique transaction is the first time an ADU has been sold without an accompanying home in the state. This type of sale was previously illegal until Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law in 2023 enabling standalone ADU purchases.
>The two-bedroom, standalone home near downtown sold for $530,000. It has no homeowners association dues or shared utilities, and it has a separate entrance and private parking.
>“It will be helping people who, they want to own a place more affordable and more easy to get a home,” Daniel Aflakian, the buyer of the 749-square-foot house, told KGO-TV.

this is gonna sound very white trash but sometimes I think of buying rural land and then just buying a large country shed to plop on it (after insulating)
>>
>>539678401
I'm in the middle of something like that. Not easy, still has to meet residential code, have engineer signed plans.
>>
>>539678575
what part of the US are you in? In Maine people regularly live in beaten up trailers year long, so there's not much regulation here.
>>
>>539678266
What is the point of even going to San Francisco if it costs this much to live there?
>>
We call them granny flats and they can be rented sometimes
>>
>>539678677
I think if it is transportable, lots of regulations don't apply.
>>
>>539678768
It’s stupid there is no reason now

Used to be okay before feminism ruined it for everyone around 2010-2011
>>
>>539678266
They've been doing that in SoCal for years op. Huntington Beach looks like a midscale ghetto now.
>>
>>539678677
>beaten up trailers
Oregon. People do that here, varies by county a lot. I've been living in a toy hauler for nearly a year with no problems, but I have a building permit, actively building.
Building a 'barn' to residential code. Way behind and over budget. Nightmares about inspections and disasters.
>>
>>539678889
>They've been doing that in SoCal for years
they have allowed ADUs, not selling of ADUs

San Jose, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Santa Monica, and San Diego (both the city and unincorporated county areas). Thank you for joggin' anon's noggin.

I've done construction in SF offices etc and I never figured out why a cramped shit-hole would become "high tech" (programming) center.

Wouldn't the first question for a coder's interview be "can you WFH, or 'on the road', including Zoom meetings and shit?"

Basic bitch proper house out 2x4s and on a poured stem foundation is very doable even for first timer DIYs.

Shovel, set of bags with basic hand tools, skillsaw, 4' level, 1/2" bit and drill, maybe manual stable gun for tar paper. About $300 if bought new.

Build the exterior/roof and insulate with Encapsulated Fiberglass Roll and and don't worry about finishing the interior for while.

they're doing this in vancouver, too
it's called laneway housing. You build a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in your back yard so that your cousin from hyderabad has a place to crash when he visits (permanently)

that's not even $2000 in lumber

If you plan on not repairing it and shooting in a bucket and drinking faygo and mountain dew and Busch light all day, then you'll be white trash.

Also fuck jannies you faggot tranny neckbeards.

Blocking me for no reason.

How is that fucking possible it's away from everybody else. The governments are just tax Jews.

I get it though can't use any other plumbing material in Chicago except fucking copper because they are retards and copper explodes in the winter.

>more housing is bad
why are you mad kike??
>>
>>539681363
'Frisco is 25% Jewish and 50% "White"

My visitors from the Mid West remarked even the "White" people had an unsettling ughyness they couldn't put their finger on, as well as dis-likable personalities in any casual encounter.

You can't build up to 6 stories high out of wood without even an architect, just following codes,

Including have local Building Dept stamp your blueprints.

I live in Los Angeles and earn 400K a year. It's hell on earth here - and there isn't a single personable individual in the entire city. Everyone is completely standoffish, selfish, or a criminal.

That's why I'm taking a 40% pay cut to move to Cleveland where I can buy picrel outright with the down payment i've saved up for a shithole condo on the Westside that doesn't even have laundry. The people there are genuine, the produce is ten times fresher, and the schools are absolutely better for children. It's a no-brainer - head for the heartland.

This.
Basically because urban planners and boomers fucked us by building suburbs everywhere and fight any low rise or high rise within their neighborhood, city planners are turning to secondary dwellings on existing properties where garages used to go. Pajeets in canada will put up a tarp over their garage door in their semi-detached house and shove their elderly parents in there to live. Then the other 10 family members park on the street permanently or they concrete over the front lawn to park their leased jetta with a ak or punjab state decal

no, I feel you, anon. A few years back, Home Depot had demonstration sheds outside in the parking lot. I was in absolute love with the garage with a floor apartment over it. Perfect to live in and have all those workbenches downstairs, yummy and cheap.

i'm from sj and they're doing it to accommodate all the fucking jeets it's going to be a nightmare. they just tore up a 500 year old tree for a jeet's adu a few months ago... if you're brown and from out of country they're apparently approving anything. but if you're white and born here expect hell.

>>539678401
in the process of trying to do this myself but the red tape is astounding for something so simple
>>
>>539687476

It's some kind of money laundering or tax fraud.

Cool. Burn them down.
I thought that's what we did with real estate in California.
