At least the USA did well out of WWII. They were Machiavellian and played it so they came out absurdly powerful. They didn't dive in. They waited patiently until Germany had smashed Russia and Britain and had been smashed in return. For those attached to small government, isolationism, anti-communism, etc., it might have been a big misstep. But for political realists, it was a great victory for world domination. Roosevelt was literally talking to Stalin about how the British Empire should be carved up whilst WWII was going on.Britain was the real fool in WWII. British people swallow the loss happily now because they think in a moralistic-ideological way. Yes, it devastated British power, but defeating Hitler was all that mattered. In power, one must think strategically, not moralistically.
