First we should remove some government rules, increase competition between companies, and let consumers use health savings accounts. But what about low income people and the very sick? This leaves them out and not able to pay if their private plans don’t cover everything. That can be addressed by creating state funded insurance pools which absorb the costs of patients with chronic illnesses, provide low income individuals with direct government vouchers to purchase private high deductible insurance plans and expanded HSA limits. Then provide lower income individuals with direct, tax free government contributions into their HSA’s depending on their level of poverty. These are all ideas rejected by the “free healthcare or nothing” idiots.
