>the evolution of “special periotic systems” in the ancestors of amphibians and amniotes were independent events
>the amphibian tympanic membrane. probably including that of labyrinthodonts. is not ancestral to that of amniotes. and that labyiinthodonts with an otic notch are not suitable as amniote ancestors

Just a friendly reminder that there is no proof that vertebrates evolved from amphibians and that the fossil record does not support the scenario of some random fish-lizard crawling up on land and suddenly evolve lungs out of nowhere.

The people who believe it were told it as truth when they were five years old. They didn't have the critical thinking to question it and it came from one of their first authority figures in their lives (teacher).
Do you know how hard it is to get people to believe in a new truth especially one that is directly competing with a truth that they have held onto since they were children?
The generations that were brought up with this are unsaveable. Our only hope is to either delay the teaching of evolution and the big bang theory from kindergarten and push it back to high school and with competing theories. Evolution is currently the only thing being taught in schools and the only thing getting promoted on nature documentaries. These are the two biggest sources of propaganda.
>>
>>539732498
No.
Aquatic mammals are a different line that evolved from a common ancestor which then returned to the sea after evolving on land for a couple eons while the common ancestors stayed on land and evolved into (eventually) us.
>>
>>539732420
Not that hard to believe. Things adapt to the environment and change. Natural selection is real. If wolves can change into every breed of dog both big and small then why couldn't that evolve into humans over millennia? What's preventing it? Why is that such a huge hurdle in your mind?
>B-but wolves to dogs is different!
Why? It's the perfect example of how evolution works and shows how animals can change over time
>>
>>539737337
I get Big Bang theory but I don't actually see much problem with evolution. it's a good way to explain why we have things now that didn't exist in the past and why things in the past don't all exist now.
>>
>>539737724
>What's preventing it?
Because only beneficial mutations are passed on in nature, and certain mutations are impossible. There is no random mutation that's going to make it possible for a mammal to breathe underwater, for example. And that's not the sort of thing you can gain in small increments across millions of years. If there were such a mutation we'd have already witnessed it in nascent forms. Darwin's theory of evolution basically just took a common fact that everyone already knew about breeding dogs and horses, and then extrapolated that with the blind assumption that all humans must share a common ancestor. But there really isn't any evidence for such a claim. No one is surprised to learn that many species have changed a lot over the years, everyone already knew that prior to Darwin. His one and only novel claim is that all life came from a single celled organism, which is pretty baseless when you take the time to consider it.

>>539738271

There is certainly a mutation that would allow a cell to get oxygen out of the water.
>>
>>539738271
Every theory is flawed though; it's just how that works. I'd be curious to see a competing theory
>>
>>539737852
All matter exploded from a singular point. No explanation for the initial ignition for the explosion. No explanation why multiple planets are across the universe are spinning in different directions (this defies the conservation of angular momentum law). These are some of the issues I have with big bang theory, that and it can't be tested for or against. It is another thought experiment with no real world evidence. With its main practical application being nothing. If you removed it, we wouldn't lose anything, neither profit or loss would occur because it is just a headspace theory.

Evolution is more complicated. We can observe adaptation over generations. We have never observed transformation, like in OP's picture. Cutting out adaptation from evolution and making it its own theory would most definitely convert it from theory to law. You cut out the parts that arent verifiable and it becomes a scientifically valid idea.

And what good would that do without lungs that can take on water? If the idea is that change is iterative and happens over millions of years, how is a small and useless change like that going to propagate itself without the complex structure necessary to make such a change advantageous to the organism? The changes necessary to shift a creatre's lungs from water to land, or land to water, are too complex to happen iteratively when the full set of lungs is needed to function for the organism to survive in its new environment. There's no such thing as a pair of lungs that breathes 0.01% of water, and even if such a thing did exist it would be utterly worthless and confer no advantages, so how do we get enough iterations to add up to 100%? It simply does not stand up to scrutiny.

>>539738818
Calling it a theory is generous. It's honesty barely even at hypothesis level, it's just an idea with no empirical evidence in its favor and one that raises as many questions as it attempts to answer.

Being enforced as if it were a fact is not the same as standing up to scrutiny. It's still considered "settled science" that the Covid clot shots were safe, despite the fact that it's been a long established fact that they caused myocarditis and strokes. Darwin falls under suspicion of the same kind of enforcement, due to the people who were pushing his theories from the beginning, and due to the unscientific nature of his claims. Humans were already practicing selective breeding for 10,000 years before Darwin. He didn't theorize anything new, nor discover anything empirically.

Selective pressure in nature has plenty of evidence, and to an extent that can explain common ancestors for various lineages of species. This much was already known for thousands of years, because humans were doing it intentionally to breed better horses and dogs. Where Darwin comes in, is with the specific idea that all life shares a singular common ancestor. There's no evidence for that particular theory so it will always have to remain a theory, but there are several instances where it introduces a catch-22. A trait is only passed on and expanded upon if it's advantageous, but often times a trait has to first become advantageous to be passed on. Lungs were just one of a few examples, of organs that don't confer a benefit unless they're fully formed and functional, but anything that's built iteratively over millions of years will necessarily be non-function and malformed at first, and for a long time. How does a worthless mutation reliably grow, rather than shrink and become vestigial? The more sound theory would be that there are common ancestral archetypes, rather than all life having one ancestor.

Doesn't really matter either way as far as evolution is concerned, because even if all life did stem from a single celled ancestor that still doesn't answer the question of where that single celled ancestor came from. That's a whole different theory, so in my view it's pretty absurd for evolution to become a religious battleground in either direction. Christians have no reason to resent Darwin, and Darwinites have no business claiming that they've refuted Christianity. The two don't contradict each other or overlap in any way because Darwin's theories end where ontology begins. Darwin's theories should stand on their own merits, and the more people prop it up for no reason other than they think of it as a way to attack religious people, the weaker Darwin's theories look to an objective mind. Anyone who has skin in the game isn't a real scientist, basically.
