If i had to pick something from recent history I'd say Eddington was probably the best film of it's year, will stand as a definitive piece that shows the covid hysteria and also has good politics.

In Greece theater wasn't just entertainment, it was part of civic duty. There should be virtues that are taught. If it's a tragedy, the main characters shouldn't be too virtuous (bad things shouldn't happen to good people in an ideal society; one that we always strive to towards) and neither too bad (bad characters have no place inspiring an audience). Etc. As I've said above, most stuff (20th century included) is either shallow (police movies) or has a bad message or depicts horrible things happening to regular people (leaving the audience with a negative mental state and no lesson) or doesn't teach anything, etc. Usually a combination of these. Some are outright insulting to our history, like the Odyssey movie.

You should watch both. I have very refined, if not effette, tastes. I stand by both of those recommendations with great confidence. Doctor Zhviago is brilliant, grand and it's shaped around classic themes. It's about the Russian revolution and how stupid those slavic peasants were for killing off their aristocracy (all Francophiles, btw). Some of the scenes are basically pulled straight from Tolstoy novels.
There are also no Jews in The Men Who Would Be King. It's based on a Kippling short story. John Houston, Angelicas father, was a notorious countersemite. But he was brilliant they couldn't block him out. Houston is also responsible for Chinatown. Another basically jew free production, and one of the ten best films of all time by anyones standards (anyone who understands cinema).
