Boxing in around it are mountains to south west and north. The two big rivers flow to the east. The major part of China historically is the plain in the northeast of the yangtze and yellow. Thats where wuhan, shanghai, nanjing, beijing, and basically the center of chinese culture is. It's like 1/4 of the landmass of the country.Meanwhile america has a giant river valley, but it flows south, not east. And its cut off from the east coast by mountains.
