nope, the projected SD market increase was ~3-4% in 2024 (aka way before the AI bubble).

There are still a shitton applications for it, espcial now with drones and every increasing resolution of their sensors.

They are also basically a consumable with limited write cycle. (same for thumb drives).

you literally need the exact same hardware to run kimi3 as claude 5 assus or whatever the current one is called. If the model has the same amount of parameters, you need the same memory bandwidth for the same token generation speed. Chinese models just somehow excelled in the amount of GPU time needed for training.

the chip producers are simply
>profit maxed, their profit margin is already at 85%, unless they expand production there is little place for them to grow, and if they expand production the profit margin will drop
while also facing the problem that
>any field with a huge profit margin is wide open for competitors coming in to try and grab a piece of the pie since investments pay off very quickly, and China is trying to do just that right now
so the prices are not going to stay that way, one way or another. their profits will go down again inevitably.
the more surprising thing is that there were apparently a lot of investors who did not see this coming and kept pumping those stocks.

It is open source. They released it yesterday, the full model. It can be run locally.
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other western models and are subscription only. This is how they were justifying building their data centers. It is not required anymore.
https://huggingface.co/moonshotai/Kimi-K3
You can have a server grade computer with 5 GPUs to run it locally.
>>
>>539781152

It happens all the time.

Utilizing Kioxia's Super High IOPS SSDs, which is scheduled for sample shipping this year, allows for the infinite scaling of vector databases in RAG servers. This means Japan can build super-smart AI even with a limited budget. Since AI is all about the amount of data you feed it, NAND flash memory will inevitably become crucial.
>>

full kimi k3 requires 1.5tb vram for the model itself + 0.5tb vram for a single 1mio token context (1 user at the same time). To get 2tb of vram you require 14x141gb vram (h200). A single h200 goes for around 32k USD, meaning to run the full model for a single user, you need to invest 448k USD + mainboard, psu, cables, fibre optics, etc.
if you quantize kimi k3 to int2, the absolute bare minimum for it to work and also quantize the kv cache, you could run it on 1tb vram. You could somehow run it on 2x512gb mac studios, which are available for around 35k USD each on ebay. For around 70k USD you will get not the full kimi k3 capability and it will print out maybe 2t/s if you are lucky.

By combining Kioxia's AiSAQ algorithm with XL-FLASH, we achieved 4.8 billion vector searches on a single server. What is Kioxia's AiSAQ™?

During a search, AiSAQ performs repeated small random reads, such as "checking the Global Index", "reading only required clusters", "traversing graphs", and "retrieving Product Quantization (PQ) codes". FLASH excels at processing this heavy load of small random accesses at high speeds. This synergistic pairing stands out as a strategy that enhances AI search performance from both algorithm and hardware perspectives for random-access-intensive AI workloads like RAG and vector databases.

you're thinking that they need the entire LLM for each user. Thats not the model they are going for. They want specialized models for specific things. The full access to the LLM is going to go away. They don't want people to have that access. The giant 100 gigabyte models and vram and vcpu needed to run chat queries is not something that they can sustain for something like... self driving cars or robots that deliver your groceries or a customer service agent that helps you with your insurance claim.

Kimi K3 was a gut punch to the US it made it clear that silicon valley billionaires are totally out of touch with reality, so investors are already cashing out, on top of that leverage triggers automatic sells that furthers the spiral into more chaos.
If a new version of deepseek comes around or something similar it's over for the US
>>
>>539784210
the reason investors are "cashing out" is because the LLM didn't deliver what it promised. They fired a whole bunch of people and were promised better, cheaper development with less people. The problem is LLM's are good and demonstrating things quickly and give the false impression that they can build entire pieces of software on their own. But they can't... anyone who has used the LLM to deal real coding knows this. What the LLM can do is help someone is actually good at programming, or any kind of work really complete repetitive tasks faster and more efficiently.

And on top of all of this. The stupid kikes didn't realize that your entire business model has to be hosted on Sam Altman's servers and there is zero privacy. How stupid do you gotta be to fall for that. Anyways thats why they are cashing out.

I think the plan is to create what they call 'edge compute'. Basically everyone will have their own AI agent either integrated in their router hardware, or integrated with the power/telecom company somehow. The datacenter/cloud will be like the spine of the network, and you get charged based on how much you use their 'index'. The power issue is being resolved by requiring the datacenter buildouts to support themselves, as well as the lifting on restrictions on nuclear power. I want to say that 11 nuclear power plants have been built this year and are operational in the USA, and more are planned, but that number may have increased since I received the information. Basically what I think the idea is, is to have these companies basically pay for the production up front, not cause issues with the grid, and then in the future they integrate and actually make the grid more robust. They sell the power back to the grid, prices don't drop, but you get the 'AI service' for free for a certain amout of work you want from it, then you're buying tokens.

Projects are included in the tracker when they have a specific site and significant licensing activity. All RPP units meet these criteria now. Many have also had their Preliminary Data Safety Analysis approved by DOE, which allows them to begin construction on their demo units. Beyond that, Radiant has begun residency in the EBRII DOME at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and Valar and Aalo Atomics have both shipped nuclear components to their sites.

So am I correct in my understanding that a lot of people were hoping to get giga-rich off the seemingly infinite "AI boom" because they were hopping on board the train of both AI companies and the hardware suppliers of those companies, under the impression that since stuff gets better over time more and more work will be replaced by LLMs and every company wants a huge AI division to accomplish nebulous amounts of "increased productivity", all requiring massive amounts of compute which requires hardware, which means the companies selling both get pumped to the stratosphere. But in actuality what happened is that giving LLM access to employees just created huge new bills these companies had to pay and didn't accomplish anything and really no one wants to interact with computers anyway.

So now the big compute/hardware giants who were all just essentially passing around this hot potato of cash between each other in order to pretend there was growing demand on all ends, eventually had to admit that actually there just isn't nearly the supply of any of those things to fuel this exponential growth and it was all just speculation on a market that never truly existed and now the bill is come due.

And now you have AI companies scrambling to raise prices to keep up with compute costs, because the chip makers couldn't raise the materials to supply them with enough hardware to keep it cheap, and the hardware people have already cannibalized and destroyed the consumer market for basically everything, so really no one is actually buying anything from anyone.
>>

Hopefully nobody is buying h200 rigs for 500k, I just bought a full B300 chassis for slightly more than that. Still, these models that require a full NVL72 setup are of pretty limited use. I use enough simultaneous Claude sessions to roast a whole rack worth of NVL72 at those numbers lmao. My firm would never in a million years buy enough GPU capacity to replace what they use. And to be honest, it's almost impossible to get a hold of any capacity and we're a $200bil hedge fund. The market is fucking annoying as fuck to be buying anything other than single chassis scale B300 dogshit.
>>
>>539793788
Anyone who tells you they're running any kind of LLM locally for anything major is bullshitting you. Very, very few people have the hardware needed to run worthwhile sized models, and even if you did it's a lot like trying to game on a piece of shit computer; You literally cannot do anything else. Are there tiny, condensed models you can download and run on really limited VRAM allocates? Absolutely, sure, but you're not going to get any of the actual ability that modern models or cloud models can have, which does a lot to defeat the purpose.

A big part of the problem is the insane boom it has had in Korea, and their laws allowing no restrictions on ordinary citizens using options and leverage. Tokenization Just Got 1,000x Faster! (Gigatoken)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vFtJeZ7ifTA

https://github.com/marcelroed/gigatoken/#benchmarks

What is Gigatoken?
Gigatoken is the fastest tokenizer for language modeling. It supports a wide range of CPU hardware, and nearly all commonly used tokenizers. See the Benchmarks section for detailed throughput numbers across tokenizers and CPUs.

NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT SWITCHING THE WEIGHTS TO LOGARITHMIC FORMAT.

Doing a Weights LOG conversion means all MULTIPLY OPS become ADDITION OPS.

Log(X)+Log(Y)=Log(X * Y)

Or simply, neural nets use array math.
Columns times rows (times decimal accuracy)

In LINEAR MATH if you have an array of 256 X 256 X 16 digits that's a bunch of multiplication.
1048576 ops.

However, if you have LOG format weight arrays, those multiplication ops become addition ops.

LOG bonus
256 + 256 + 16 digits = 518 ops.
You still need to convert the Log back to linear format for linear additions though, but that's literally exponentially cheaper than linear multiplication ops.

The bigger your arrays, the more compute you have saved with LOG neural weights.

It's why they have like three layers minimum between any decision maker and the H1B who was formerly implementing the code and who is desperately trying to forge a new occupation known as the Prompt Engineer so xhe can keep xir jobs, saar.

But everybody went balls in, the government pumped the market up with a half trillion bucks and everybody went on a spending spree and they bought up all the things, ALL of them, and if you don't have your computer shit squared away now then Lord help you for the next 3-10 years perhaps.

Stop wasting silicon on multipliers. In standard linear neural inference, 90% of energy and chip area goes to floating-point or fixed-point multipliers during weight-activation products. By converting static weights to 16-bit logarithmic format, the multiplication vanishes—replaced by a single, ultra-cheap integer addition.

The critical summation of those products? In the log domain, it becomes a LogAdd—implemented with a tiny 256-entry lookup table, two comparisons, and a few integer adds. No exponentiation. No slow transcendental math. Just cheap adders and one small ROM.

For a dense 256x256 layer, linear math executes 65,536 multiplications and 65,000 additions. Log math executes exactly 0 multiplications and roughly 130,000 simple additions with table hits. In physical hardware, a 16-bit multiplier occupies 10x more area and consumes 10x more dynamic power than an adder. This means LOG weights shrink your inference engine’s footprint by 5x, slash power by 4x, and boost clock speeds—because addition paths have drastically shorter propagation delays than multiplication.

Since weight pre-conversion is a one-time, zero-cost upfront investment, every subsequent forward pass is pure computational arbitrage. You trade expensive, latent-heavy MAC units for an army of lightweight ALUs and small SRAM. For edge devices, data centers, and embedded NPUs, LOG weights aren’t a compromise—they are the ultimate optimization hack, turning a multiplication-bound brute force into an addition-driven breeze. Linear is legacy; log is logic.

That's what they're designing them for as of now, not aware of others, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing DOD stuff as well.

I corrected that later, they're in the build process. You can highlight my ID on this board and see the other posts I've made.

When I bought pic related last year it was $170 on amazon, which had been the normal price since years before. Today the same SSD is $390. Is this "normal" pricing to you?

To be fair, storage was getting very cheap. I loaded up before the market lost it's ever loving mind, and bought almost 100TB of rust and 24TB of SSD and built a little machine and a server. I saw prices a few months ago for what I had bought, and the prices were either 3-5x or just unavailable. It's fucking wild.

I think I know the company that's working with the government on this new chip. But I don't want to say it here.
Is it a tech company whose name is a well known and will established three letter acronym?
If I'm correct, the chip is FAR more than just a transition from silicon magnetizing to diamond etching. The entire architecture is different. It's like a stacked design. I don't want to say too much...but am I warm or close here? This company recently took a big hit on their stock price.

Thanks for your comments itt. I try to stay up on this stuff, but I'm far from expert in this arena.

5D optical data storage is essentially write and read only. overwriting is impossible at the scale and speed required for commercialization.

not that this post matters, seeing as every other reply has spun off into talking about some stupid bullshit chips instead of what I know you are trying to refer to

It's a double edged sword anon, and most people don't know this, but inflation actually reduces our real national debt. This is what Japan has been trying to do, but they don't have anything to really export other than some software and cars. Hell, they have a toilet maker that's probably more strategic an asset for their chip industry than anyone else on the island. Not even joking.
>>
>>539796974
Thanks. I will be buying. Much appreciated.
>>
>>539797322
This isn't inflation it's clearly cartel price fixing perpetrated by the small number of chip manufacturers.
>>
>>539797391
I agree, and that's what I had previously posted stating that it's basically money laundering, and all the directors/CEOs are poos for the most part outside of the local vendors overseas.
>>
If chip stocks are bad and volatile now then where should I put my money?
>>
>>539797322
All evidence is pointing towards Japan being the new leader in technology with China being providing the cheap stuff. Japanese unis and companies have already discovered the way to cost effectively produce Diamond wafers and etching tools for Diamond semiconductors or super conductor. I’m not an expert but everybody is opening plants in Japan for the semiconductor industry and it’s all to ensure Japan has its own circular supply and exporting capabilities.

It's not money laundering it's price fixing, which is not only a crime but a crime Samsung and Hynix have both been tried for and convicted of in the past. Their executives even served prison time for illegally price fixing memory chips.

Micron was also involved but they got some kind of leniency deal probably for being based in America.

I think China has more production, but as usual with them, the quality wouldn't match the Japanese. The USA doesn't care where they come from, because no one else can do what we're doing.
>>539797724
I don't disagree, it was moreso the money flows and contracts between all of them, and then using those numbers as revenue, when none of it really existed to begin with, but they still reap the stock price increases and no tax penalties.

Same anon. Do what exactly? US is behind the curve, they’re trying to wrangle Japan or Japan is leveraging its tech with the US. Nothing is truly known but Japan is building itself out to be a major tech player like they were before the 90’s. I do feel that Japan will sacrifice its citizens savings to plummet their currency. All part of the plan for the Diamond future.
>>
>>539798068
Unfortunatly the easy answer is war debt.
The USA's most powerful tool of negotiation is our debt, and our military. We're basically mercs when you distill it down.
Trump is a very interesting person when you look at him from a very open mind. I'm old. I like this place because for the most part it's pretty open, and I've learned some things from time to time, and I usually check here just to see what's (not) in the news that day. Trump is basically a mason, a man of plans and designs. I'm indifferent to them for the most part, but I don't underestimate them, especially if they can prove themselves.
For example: today during McCain's burial or whatever (rest in piss faggot) he solemly offered JD a candy. JD instantly knew the gag, and Trump kinda lost his composure, but then regained it. He then offered it to his gay financy guy. The whole gag was to troll the media, and mock GW giving the candy to Michael.
Was it on the spot? Was it planned? Does it matter? Most people won't even get the joke, or the intelligence to do it.
Sorry for the ramble. Like the kids say, people are noticing... I cut off my eyelids 20 years ago, and I don't refute anything presented until I do my own research.

>And how the fuck can dataservers run the AI for millions of users?

the dirty secret (and it's not even much of a secret) is if you're getting free AI (which is what most of those millions are getting) then they're getting trash AI that's WORSE than running a decent dense model on a $500 laptop w/32GB of RAM and 4GB of VRAM. SOME of that hosted AI hooks into the equivalent of powerful MCP servers but on many things you can see the holes. This has been brought up quite a few times on places like r/locallama. I don't even use ChatGPT anymore but this problem goes waaaaaay back.

>Big data centers have no reason to exist anymore
They don't exist, functionally. The vast majority are nowhere near completion and investors have started to invest heavier in the companies that make products for said data centers than the centers themselves - they're basically suggesting that the bottleneck will be everything else and not the centers themselves.

It was a retarded move. Said data centers need a massive amount of infrastructure, that takes years. They need the hardware too. That takes years. The actual centers themselves are NOT what's even important, they can throw them up pretty quick but actually ordering the materials for them means the bottleneck is the producer of said materials.
So what happens to the data center when they have a 10 year backlog before they get all the parts in, yet they already built the building and the power lines and took out a billion dollar loan? They go under before making a cent of product, the people who had orders there seek someone who they don't have to bail out quite as hard.

Financing a project that will take 10 years to complete = economic disaster.

>This thing the size of your fingernail should rightly be 120 dollars

>>
>>539798890
In general I agree with this, but a lot of companies pre-ordered a lot of stuff. The company I work for blew out our budget for this entire year on a product buy for hardware in 2025Q2 because we had some genius in procurement that had the foresight and convinced management to do it. Probably saved us more than we've lost this year. Now things like SFPs are on a 6-12 month delay, fiber is delayed, and now we need those big ass reels of it and fusion splicers for infrastructure projects. We did another deal with a different hardware provider last year, and didn't get any guarantees on optional/aux items we may need, so they of all people are our bottle neck.
One thing people are not taking into account is the people that can actually build out these environments. I've received multiple offers that pay more than what I'm currently making just to do systems installation/integration because I have a background in building them out. What that does is shrink the talent pool, then you get higher prices, companies cheap out and hire third party contractors due to legal etc. and then they fuck the whole thing up, go bankrupt, and it keeps the market elevated for a while.
>>
>>539783255
Something's off with these... Anyone able to explain?
Their MSRP was ~$10k a few months ago and they sold out ASAP before being removed from the market.
Makes no sense for these to be at under $5k. Unless I'm missing something big, these are fake, broken, or don't contain what's advertised.
>>
>>539799337
>Pre-order
Yeah, you're lucky if you're the company that pre-orders first. It loses you a ton of money but also saves you a ton, guy at the end of the line is told too bad though because everyone else pre-ordered the existing supply for literal years.

Talent pool for building, sure, I'd imagine they're not really able to train nearly enough people for such specialized labor. I'm just not sure how much of a problem it will be long-term.
>>
>>539799820
It's all cyclical, just like your picture. Those points on the chart will converge and eventually return to the mean. I've seen this before. RF engineer by trade, learned and did the buildout stuff, and now I'm basically an advisor for how to implement.

This is another problem. Faggot companies are only 'guaranteeing performance' based on interconnect speed, saying they need a 10gB/s connection minimum to work, which requires all new infrastructure, and the retards making the company standards have to use that because if they don't legal won't approve the deal. The whole thing is fucking annoying, and don't get me started on zoning, paying off politicians, changing how we describe projects to the public to evade controversey and future lawsuits (because paying off the politicians now is cheaper), and all the other nonsense I deal with on a daily basis.
