The very concept of a "totalitarian state" is misleading and based upon a misrepresentation of truth.The concept only works and always used in the context of equating the government with the state, and falsely assuming that it is either the state who holds the power or nobody, and what the state does not hold leaves a vacuum in its place.So therefore, as the flase comparison goes, there are states (governments) that grab all the power and therefore encroach on all aspects of life (totalitarian) and there are small or liberal governments that only grab some power and leave the rest in a vacuum, allowing liberty.In reality, the power that is not held by the government is not, however, long-lasting in a vacuum. The government does not control the media? Some oligarch or foreign entity will buy it up and control it instead, in its own interests. The government does not dictate state religion? Foreign religions and their fanatic believers will work in order to attain dominance (eg: Islam). The govetnment does not decide fiscal policy? (((Private-owned))) Central Banks will. The government does not control the ideologies and political indoctrination of education? Idealouges will organize themselves to covertly take over and turn it political according to their own goals.If we rid ourselves of the false notion that the state is the government and instead we rightly assert that the state is simply the collective of organized power structures that govern society, we immediately arrive at the correct conclusion that every state by definition, is totalitarian. The only question is how much of the state is represented by the government, and how much of it is a deep state, a collection of interest groups with no visibility, and therefore, no accounatbility to the wider public.
