The idea is any aggression against Taiwan would be met with resistance in the form interventions from the Philippines, Japan, and possibly the USA.Japan has an aging population with only about 10 million people at recruitment age, but they still have strong industries and technology. The Philippines meanwhile lacks industries to produce hardware but have bodies to throw around. Both countries can make up for their weaknesses and support Taiwan.Here's the problem, however. There's been growing anti-US sentiment around the world, while sentiment for China has only been improving. And it's become apparent that the USA is stretched so thin that they may not be able to adequately support a war against China. The USA has its own recruitment problems. The USA's WW2 and cold war era factories are long gone. And while the USA's defense budget has swollen into nearly a trillion annually, it has not manifested in tangible hardware or expansions of military forces that could be deployed to help overseas.Will the Philippines and Japan just end up as the USA's pawns in a proxy war, as Ukraine was for Russia or as the Kurds were for ISIS?USA needs to solve the Iran and Russia issues soon and focus on Asia-Pacific, or else the USA's allies in Asia may just give up and let China take over.
