>>539838184Iran is playing the long game. Destroying Israel in the short term doesn't actually win them the current conflict. The goal that matters in the short term is getting the USA to back down/out of the region. They do this by making staying too expensive for us to do until we give up and go home. Keeping control of the strait and putting pressure on the USA/the rest of the world economically is their most viable weapon, they will beat us by hitting us in our money, not our troops. Attacking Israel beyond occasional retaliatory strikes would work against Iran's current strategy, because that gives the US more justification to stay involved in the conflict because we have to "defend Israel". by intentionally holding back on attacking Israel for now, they undercut reasons for the USA to eat the economic cost of staying and make it more likely that we will eventually tuck tail and leave. Once that happens, Iran can bomb Israel into the stone age with impunity if they want to because we won't be in the way to protect them.
