Instead of buying dolls for their kids and houses, Millennials are instead buying Magic and Pokémon cards. MTG made record profits this year. My city is only around 68,000 people, yet we have SIX small stores that sell TCG cards. 2 comic stores, a dedicated game store, a shoe store, a sports cards store. And one more card store is about to open. Something is going on here in economics for so many TCG cards being sold instead of real things. It's not like men will find women by playing TCG cards.

I rarely buy any sealed products, but what I've come to realize is that cardboard gacha as old as it is, is more appealing for people who have "disposable income" see: no savings because if they get a good pull, they say they "made money" despite throwing away cash again and again and staying in the hole, it's also likely they'll never sell that card or use it for anything of value so it's all negative value. A lot of them also just like making "new decks" without the realization they've spent another $200 on something they might use once every few weeks, or may never use more than once. >>539840353This is what I did when I'd actually buy boxes when I played the Digimon TCG, selling the chase cards covered up pretty much all of my costs for decks since I wasn't interested in playing some of the secret rares. The best part about any TCG is that it's all fake scarcity, though. It's not about making a fun balanced game, it's about selling sealed product to crackheads, and if those crackheads can't get what they want, eventually they'll buy singles.

I got into it for a while. I just felt bad, I felt like a scalper plus it's addicting. I did pull 2 cards that are worth like $500 so that's nice. I don't even know what to do with the hundreds of other cards I got from when I was doing that.
