I think back on all of it with mix of self-hate for letting myself be involved for so long and giving up some of my best years while also self-appreciation for dodging all the other bullets in life. sometimes when I hear about an old comrade from the clandestine operations days who killed themselves, I am glad because they deserve it and so do I.most days I wake up hoping it is my last day on earth. the only thing stopping me from suicide is religious prohibitions and the pain it would bring my father. other than that I spend every day trying to figure out how to fill up 40 years of free time until I die around age 85 or so. I've done everything I care to in life, traveled the world, and want to leave it all behind.
