The future of the most dominant military on planet can be seen right if you take a maximum magnification power microscope to a sample of your blood, in it, you will see soldiers, called white blood cells, at the molecular level who's job is to be members of the second most complex arrangement known to humans after the human brain, type kurzgesagt immuniohistcompatibility murder university immune system into youtube to learn all about it. But yes the behavior of these 2 billion year old objects, the very small, so small you can't even see it, you breath in millions of these soldiers every breath from the dirty air that kicks up from the dust. Soldiers can be found on dust that's so fine that gravity doesn't pull it to the floor it just floats with the air neutrally boyant.

Anyway, tiny drones the size of your fist, tiny drones the size of your pinky. Tiny drones the size of insects and tiny ants. Are the future of the military.

The enemy tank will roll over a nest of these soldiers, most will be crushed, but a few will crawl up into the tank treads, a few will climb up to the top and find the opticals, antenna and air-intake, and emit an inflate-a-foam to block the air intake, emit a tiny paintbrush and a reach into its black nailpolish abdomen and paint a fuck you on the laser sight, and the other one finding the wireless transceiver and then planting a computer on it, to pick up all the encrypted incomings and outgoings, and re-amplify them over the air as an ion painter and "here I am, we're moving in this direction and the engine is roaring", and "missile launched" etc.

The future of the military isn't a nigger stooping and pooping with a rifle hiding in a bush. The future of the best military, is ants that are tiny you can't even see them unless you get your face right up close with a magnifying glass and you have 20/20 vision.

Yeah, that aint happening boss. Forcefield bubble shields that would be required to be effective against drone attacks are one of the few scifi concepts that don't have a theoretical pathway to making them a reality. A forcefield window? Ok we can probably do that. Point defense barrier on a specific object? Yeah but it cant be used to protect a human and needs a cities worth of power to save a tank. Big magnetic field? The people being protected by it arent going to be able to have any ferrous metal at all, and its not going to stop lead or DU.

The year is 2062 and the great satan in washington DC got clearance from Judah the remphanic cia glowniggers from sauron virginia and now airplanes are dropping millions of drones of every variation down in China.

We're zooming in on one drone that is unfolding as it falls its deployed form. The Point to point internet connects, in this world you don't get internet unless you bring your own internet and that means "digital wireless p2p sneaker net" that can't be jammed by an enemy fleet between your drones. Quantity becomes quality here. Anyway the time is 10AM pacific time and 8AM eastern time, the roblox severs gets the signal from sauron and 800 thousand people sitting in air conditioned room open their laptops, their surfaces and their hud overlay screens to pilot the drones and complete the objectives on the screen. Although children are members of this, because we need every warm body we can get, they are ruthlessly filtered out and reprimanded for incorrect behaviors leading to losses on the field. They don't know it's real it's just a game and there is a hierarchy of command where as you prove your ability to lead a 8 member strike team to achieve world of warcraft strays and breakaway patterns, you get to rise and lead an 8 member set of 8 person strike teams increasing your purview to 64. This goes all the way up to the commander of the entire army.

The combat zone will stop being an artillery trade thing, and be more like a swarm of locusts. The sky darkening from flying drones.

Changing view to one of the larger clankers, it puts out solar panels and takes in jerry cans of diesel ans gasoline brought to it, and recharges the drones who form a line to feed on the power strips, and then depart again. Also change view to the surgery drones which triage the drones that need fixing or disassembly and reassembly after cleaning, and dealing with unforseen errors.

One clanker just taps router p2p endrods into the ground. clank 9 paces. Repeat.

No. Costs too much. Not worth it.
>>
Soldiers in full armored powersuits already have a use case and could probably be built in an effective way with modern technology; CQB.

In war today CQB is primarily done with explosives that are thrown into rooms. Trying to clear them the way you see in movies and TV shows with the line of guys is so insanely risky that it just can't be responsibly done if the opponent is anywhere close to matched force. If you're Navy SEALS and it's one guy in the room who's asleep, fine, otherwise toss in a grenade or have a tank collapse the building.

Powered armor would have a huge benefit in these scenarios in that you could encase a human being completely in bulletproof armor, meaning he is close to invincible to small arms fire while remaining mobile. That would allow him to safely clear rooms where one expects to find enemy combatants that have guns, since he can take shots without dying unlike his opponents. This would be particularly useful where target discrimination is key, a field which grenades and drones do not excel in.

Power suits would probably be extremely limited in battery life, but at the speed you could walk through a building in these things, 20 minutes would probably be enough. You would stay plugged in until you walk off your APC or helicopter, and then directly into the building.

Theoretically you could also use such people for guard positions where they can stay plugged in until some shit pops off and then they can break free to take care of it. Would make standing outside a guard post feel a lot safer.

But that's for power suit soldiers like your pic of course. Genetically modified soldiers are in the future and they may not be modified to work a power suit; could be more like, a SEAL with small book lungs who can sleep underwater, or a Ranger with cat eyes who doesn't need tubes to see in the dark.

We’ve had steroids for awhile and most of the grunts in the GWOT were roid trannies. Also pretty sure the commies tried this by a great ape breeding program and it wasn’t successful. Drones aside, ground troops that are super soldiers is impractical, stupid, a waste of resources, and a detriment when you’re in peace time. It’s much more practical to train a regular person and give them a gun if you just need to fill bodies. It’s even more practical to use drones to blow up people and eventually it will be even more practical to have Robutts stand guard and do ground soldier stuff.

A tank of any design is useless in a modern battlefield because handheld drones exist.

As it turns out, tanks have three weaknesses which cannot be solved with the modern advancement in technologies unless they too emit swarms of drones to push back the oncoming drones.

1. Tanks need air which means air intake. This can be blocked.
2. Tanks need to see, which means they must have eyes of some sort, even if they're like a frogs eyes, which only open briefly like blinking, they must eventually open and when that happens you can paint a fuck you penis on the opticals.
3. Tanks need ridiculous quantities of fuel, which means every week or so, a fleshpile must come out of the tank, receive the gas tank filler spigot and tube, and this fleshpile or clanker that refills the tank can be scratched by a drone on the tank that was waiting patiently on a plate under the hull, for this delicate operation to burst back into existence during the tank cleansing operation, to drop an explosive onto the big truck refueling all the tanks, which is not heavily armored.

A 30 ton, 20 ton, 10 ton, one ton tank that can't clank because his engine does not turn, is completely useless to achieve objectives on a modern battlefield.

Cold plasma is the answer to force fields in sci-fi, but even if it was practical and we had the energy to build this, it’s not something you’d see on a standard soldier or even a super soldier. Maybe like a battle ship or mobile base where a defense like this would be useful. But personal shields? lol

>>539906560
We technically already have super soldiers. A fully armored and trained man wielding modern equipment is a force to be reckoned with. As for drone/robots, they will always have downsides. Something that human soldiers exceed them at or can assist with that another machine can't replicate to a satisfactory degree.

Customer complaint: You have to nerf the zerg because Zerg rushes completely ruin what makes the game fun. The dominant strategy is just to sit at home and make trillions of next-to-zero value command following drones to simply run at the enemy and grab onto the enemy and dig in and explode in a river of half-alive half cybernetic half locust eating leaves off the trees and shitting out poop as living bullets.

There's no strategy it's just whoever can make the most and send them out the quickest. You must introduce impedences to the zerg rush strategy, to give the other classes like protoss and humans, half a chance to express domination on the battlefield by correctly balancing resource draw and efficiently employing high cost but also high value human piloted vehicles.

Sorry, zerg is honeybadger, honeybadger don't give a shit, you die now to a swarm of zerg, and your game theory of AI dominance cannot hold a candle to a million trillion drones hugging you to death.

>>
>>539906560
Not necessarily, drones have always been more plausible in the near future than super soldiers, or soldiers with heavy implants and using something like a cybernetic exoskeleton.

The issue with drone warfare is that it has its limits. As you can see with current conflicts, it doesn’t resolve anything, it’s like a permanent state of nothing happening. They can’t pull off the kinds of special operations that a Spartan could.

Blocking the air intake and painting on the opticals are fucking stupid, I'm sorry. It's cool in a video-gamey kind of way but in actual combat scenarios you just want to destroy the thing enough it can't be used. The normal FPV drones we see are already very good at that. The little drones might be able to disable the tank - in very not permanent ways - but unless it was already up your asshole, you're not stealing it until after the rest of the battle anyways because a tank doesn't just show up on its own.

It's a much better use case to use the micro-drones as in your third point: as difficult-to-find tracking devices that can help find hidden staging and resourcing points to be hit with heavy ordinance later.

You may have wondered why the drones on the modern battlefield have been disproportionately aiming for the forward armored hatch on the Russian tank, and the hatch on the back if there is one, rather than taking the juicer target which is blowing off the tank tread or going for the delicious target of the craw between the bottom of the turret and the top of the hatch, to pull off the Tank's lid and put it into the sky.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfaMHmoR-ts

The reason is because the charges on these drones are for melting the hatch and insta-welding it into a closed position. As once you're stuck in there for more than a week, can't get the next shift guy in there, then you've got a tank with an ineffective pilot.

The drone explosives bring their own dimond scatter insta- JB weld. So that although all you're succeeding in doing is giving the russian tank driver ringing eardrums, he reaches for the hatch at the end of the 30 hour shift, and he is stuck inside. After 80 hours the tank is a decoration on the combat zone, and a drone with a shaped forward charge can hit the weakest part into the artillery section, and make a crater using the Tanks own artillery to do it.

While /pol/ tends not to be the place for sober technical analysis, I'll try to humor the principle of the question. The short answer is no, and no.

The meta around drones has already mostly run it's course for first world militarizes given the primary means of controlling devices remotely being very easily phreaked, or jammed. Basically everything is controlled via radio. While corded drones will likely see use indefinitely, and survalience continues to see use for now, active combat use is bassically over.

You'll note in the threads on this very board they stopped showing footage of people with guns getting killed by drones, while it continues to see use for a while in blowing up 70 IQ rubble shovelers, or the camp cook if he's unlucky enough to not get a portapotty close to base.

Various super soldier programs have been attempted in the past, and the general problem is we don't really have a good conception of what a super soldier might practically be. You might write down in your sci-fi book something like...
>Master Chief is taller than your typical soldier, and he has sci-fi muscles that are able to pack more muscle into the muscle
That's just not how it works. Your limbs are basically filled up, and can't be made more dense with the existing biological makeup of known life.

We have a pretty good mix of slow, and fast muscles already. If anything, a genetically engineered ideal soldier might be leaner, and weaker to allow for better endurance. There isn't much practical utility for increased strength once you can do pull ups with the gear you're expected to carry.

Well yeah, but that's not exactly what people are thinking of.

>>539909153
Most drones that are set up with some sort of explosive do so with a simple button system, or a contact system. What amounts to either a wire that measure resistance, a wire that is interlocked with another wire that when they are bent by say, running into something at high speeds, the live wire hits the wire that's hooked up to the trigger.

You'd know this if you had a basic understanding of the technology, it's the big ass thing out front that you can see in all the videos. If you touch that it goes boom.
>>
>>539906560
>>539910528
(2/2)
We already have the technology to keep people awake, and alert until they start actively dying (It's called drugs.) while there is a slight problem with hallucinations, that seems to be more of a byproduct of being awake that long.

The whole trouble with the mental front of say, making Master Chief not need to sleep, while extremely militarily useful, is not something that doesn't seem to be possible with a central nervous system.

Maybe something could be devised where you'd have this thing with redundant portions of the nervous system to allow them to act while partially sleeping, and this might have the byproduct of having to size them up slightly to accommodate this second brain setup, but this is less of them being a super soldier in terms of strength, and speed, and more that you could have someone who you can have running around doing special forces things indefinitely.
>>
>>539906560
I think we're heading towards a regression in tactics. I'm talking completely out of my ass, but if drones make vehicles a risky target, ground travel complete suicide, and air travel a gamble...I feel like the only way forward is a return to trenches and tunneling.

I have a cousin in the military that I legitimately believe is in some type of program like this. He's already a captain at 26. He's also attractive and 6'4 and broke several weight lifting records at whatever school he was at. When he joined the government literally relocated him with a large house and paid everything off. He also has a wife in the same branch. It's almost like they were set up to marry. It's just an unusual situation. I've never heard of the military doing all this for someone if anyone can verify.
>>
>>539912436
Not currently possible, though hypothetically possible with a new form of computing. While you don't need human level intelligence to navigate terrain, and point at things that look like they're people, you do need better computing power than we currently have. You can't make computers much more than three times as space, and power efficient than they currently are under our current system, and that's assuming we're dealing with an atomic cap as opposed to a how much space you need for electrons.

To give the super short version, your cat's neurons operate on a negative 400.to positive 400 system, while computers operate on binary. You're able to get a lot smarter in a lot smaller, and bioligical creatures have these chemicals their bathing their processing system in that change how many of the signals are interpreted, which adds another layer of complexity to the system.

You'll probably see cloned brains operating mechanical suits as a kind of military homunculi before you see autonomous robot soldiers.

>>
>>539906560
I've thought about super soldier systems for most of my life. >>539910528 is correct - the key problem with super soldiers is that nobody actually knows what they'd look like. Power armor is a tough proposition, but I think part of the problem with it is that people have a very limited and narrow set of ideas about how power armor is supposed to enhance you. I was thinking about power armor that gives you other kinds of abilities besides just enhanced strength and durability.

If you you met someone who claims to have a totally self guided missile, ask them to stand in-between the target, and the missile.

Heat seeking missiles, while very impressive, are not "autonomous" they're first aimed very close to where the target will be, and can make small adjustments. Basically all guided missiles are following a preset path, or are being actively controlled. While very recently we've set up some missiles that are able to do some very basic image recognition they're still being fired by a dude who is doing the image acquisition.

They also aren't doing so much image recognition of targets, but image recognition of the ground, and air. They struggle greatly when there is something in-between them, and the user intended target because they are more strongly guided by their angle.

>>539913770
I'll take it as sufficient that you don't have a recent example. Causing trouble for logistics is all well, and good militarily, but logistics aren't even infantry.
