America has essentially abandoned all of its principles for the expediency of those in power and surprise surprise, it doesn't fucking work. Everyone who's trying to reverse course is constantly undercut by the people who benefit from things being bad and getting worse. That corruption gets them their power and they don't want to give it up, so we can only wait for the structural incompetence that corner-cutting and corruption introduces to cause the stupidity to collapse in on itself, keeping an eye out for any opportunity to roll up the corruption earlier so that it doesn't take down everyone with it.
