The social and political left have made open borders and removal of immigration controls their position. The left gave up the idea of even very limit immigration controls to the right. The right generally wants immigration controls even if those labeled as right leaning politicians never do anything about immigration. Even minimal temporary immigration controls over the last few decades have been compared to Nazi Germany by those on the left thus the policy is presented as right wing
