Alright, gimme some examples of states with fucked-up laws.
>>539939245The American approach to legal codes is inherently designed to be as convoluted and as inefficient as possible because neoliberalism is designed to be anti-efficiency and anti-doing-stuff. They obscure it with 500 layers of bureaucracy instead of boiling it down to a conditional hypothetical 'if X then Y'
>Marital rape and domestic violence is legal in pretty much every Islamic country. >Iraq: Honor killings carry a maximum sentence of 3 years in Iraq (though most cases result in acquittal or a slap on the wrist)>Iraq: Article 398 of the Penal Code dismisses rape charges entirely if the perpetrator marries his victim.>Bangladesh: 2017 Child Marriage Restraint Act's "special cases" loophole lets underage girls be married to their rapists, and jailhouse marriages to secure release are documented>Child marriage is legal in Somalia
>>539939838>Pakistan: killers can be pardoned by the victim's family — which in honour killings is the killer's family. Qandeel Baloch's brother was convicted of her murder, then pardoned by the parents and freed in 2022 Rape is defacto legal in many Islamic countries, 0.48% conviction rate in Bangladesh where gangrape of young girls is a cultural practice. Many other countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Syria have zero documented convictions for rape.
>>539939245Do you mean individual states like in America, or actual full on countries?America as a country allows dual citizenship, and even allows dual citizens to hold political office. I cannot imagine anything more insane than that. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, here in the US, has laws against brothels that end up restricting the number of unrelated women residing in a single location. What this means is that PA universities cannot have sorority houses as those would be considered brothels (which, I mean, that's what they are in other states anyway, so...). Instead, universities assign entire dormitory floors to a specific sorority, since they're controlled access and thus are kind of a loophole.
>>539940913>Do you mean individual states like in AmericaYes. States, not countries.
>>539940986A country is a "state" by the technical definition. America is unique in that it is technically 50 different "countries" or "states" bound in a federation, with laws common to all of them federally, and then individual states have their own laws for whatever the federation government doesn't cover. Which isn't much since 1865 and the Supremacy Clause, to be fair.So that other poster talking about Iran wasn't technically ignoring your prompt.
>>539940986Anyway, more Pennsylvania fun since I live there:Alcohol sales are strangely restricted in PA compared to most other states. Spirits and liquor are only permitted to be sold through what we call "State stores" - they're directly managed and governed by the state itself, and all proceeds go directly to the state bureau of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. Large, bulk sales of beer have to go through specially licensed distributors. Individual businesses can sell beer and wine, with specific licenses that cost about $250k a year for renewal, and they're limited to 192 fluid oz. per transaction. Which just means you buy one 15pack of beer, walk it out to your car, walk back into the store, buy another 15pack, walk it out, and so on.
>>539941656I know they have a drinking age of 21 since way back, it probably dates from Prohibition.
>>539939245Texas, forced to give jews money.
>>539941904Every state has a drinking age of 21. That's federally mandated, not a state level decision.
>>539941956Not forced, you just aren't allowed to publicly boycott firms explicitly because they deal with Israel. You can boycott them for other reasons. So just don't tell the cops why you're boycotting and they got nothing. I kinda wish someone would openly boycott due to Israel and get arrested just so they can push it to the Supreme Court and either strike it down under 1st Amendment protection, or openly declare the entire country as subservient to Israel. Either way, better to have clarity than this kangaroo court banana republic shit we got going on.
