And there likely never will be one for the foreseeable future. The U.S. was only able become one because it maintained its wealth after both World Wars and the Cold War. This wealth allowed it to be empowered by the global economy like an empire accepting tributes from its vassals. But its wealth is drying up. Who will take its place then? No one because the conditions that allowed the U.S. to become a superpower are gone. The global economy has been shaken, and no one will be able to have the same power imbalance that the U.S. had until the next global conflict. So now we return to how things were like before the 20th century: a bunch of local powers vying for control in their region.
