Seen the The Odyssey 2x, going for the 3rd time next weekened. In my opinion the movie of the decade if not the century.

Anon, the Odyssey IS capeshit, except with a "Greek" theme. This is why I won't watch the movie. There is literally nothing different in it compared to Batman or Spiderman in Greek costumes. And on top of it they just have to cast absurd actors that don't fit the roles they're in.

Never watching this. I am not even willing to watch this for free, that's how much of a waste of time I deem it.

I fucking cried when I saw it the other day. I'm not asking for pity or sympathy, but I'm a combat veteran myself. As I continue learning more and more about the country I gave a decade of my life to, my relationship with war and prosperity grows more and more complex. The idea that Odysseus didn't want to come home because he didn't deserve to hit me so fucking hard in the feels that we sat there at the credits until the lights came on.

The way Nolan managed to tie the Odyssey into contemporary times was stunning. It's a message for our times -- that despite our advanced civilization, we have ourselves become the sea peoples. We have authored the stories of war, suffering, and indiscriminate slaughter we hear as echoes bounced off the human beings on whom we enact these crimes.
>>
>>540051293
It's almost like you have tons of blonde people, but deliberately, you choose a black woman that isn't even attractive by standards. Cowards don't think about it much, and call it racist to point out the nonsense.
>>
Anyone who says this movie is above a 3/10 at best needs to be removed from society.

The blatant, fragrant heresy on screen in every frame, all the plastic 3D printed armours, the fucking big name actors in your face who aren't characters, the forced wokeshit, the black helen of troy, what the fuck is wrong with you.

How did we go from movies like Ben Hur where every thread and stitch on a costume was accounted for, every detail crafted. Mel Gibson's apocalypto, hand made jade jewelry on random background extras not even in focus, everyone speaking real indigenous language, no big name actors.

Actual colour and cinematography not just fucking blue desaturated everywhere.

This movie is an affront to cinema and art itself. The only good thing about he movie, Nolan had nothing to do with. If you credit anything positive to him about this movie you're fucking retarded.

Horrible disgrace of film making.

I thought it was 9/10. I take one point off for what I thought was poor resolution of the theme of autonomy. It felt parenthetical, Odysseus' rebellion against the gods -- like an element tacked on simply because it was so prominent and unavoidable in the source material.

Either way, you're totally wrong not to attribute the film's broader themes to him. The script inserted the alternative interpretation that Odysseus spent so long returning home not (only) because Calypso imprisoned him, but because he had this complex moral injury and guilt from what he did to the Trojans. The recurring motif of Athena was incredibly moving, especially when we finally see the sack of Troy in its entirety. I'm not sure how people could watch it and not be moved.

Literally everyone, for centuries? It's not like Homeros depicted her appearance at all, but if you actually look into historical depictions of Helen of Troy, you won't see any black woman at all. If you're gonna try to make sense out of Odyssey through the movie itself and dismissing hundreds of accounts of depictions, you won't get the point. I don't hate black people, but think of how ridiculous it would be to whitewash black majority movies. Is it too hard for you to figure it out on your own?
>>
>>540051293
>Its not going to ruin the movie for you unless you really passionately hate niggers.
I don't hate them, I hate having them forcefully shoved in certain roles like that, "for the message". it's second hand embarassment. they are treating them worse than hardcore racists do. even /pol/tards would treat them better than having them floundered like some retarded kid who they try to make feel special and accepted. it's pathetic and it's harming perception about black people, not even joking.

This racialism stuff is pretty boring. There's no room for anything else in a racialist worldview because everything is already static. You're never going to "develop" from being white or black to anything else. You just kind of "are" already the color of your skin. There's no room for pathos or drama or development or even a journey because the conclusion of racialist analysis is already baked into the preconditions -- it's just skin color and ethnicity. There's simply no room for so much as discovery because everything is already written in the visual language of skin color. If that's all you care about -- which, going from the depth of discussion, seems to be true -- then you just look at the skin color of everyone in the film, make some angry noises about other skin color bad, and... I guess that's all she wrote.

What I don't understand is what you gain from this. Sure, you know that when you sit down to engage with pretty much anything, you have an easy way to make concrete sense of something. What I see as a boring, flat plain predetermined by shallow visual language to you might actually be comfy. Maybe the preclusion of analysis which is so offensive to me on an almost ontological level, to you, is actually a boon. Maybe you just don't like thinking about things and considering them. While that's valid... I dunno. It just seems so "settled" in a way I would get bored with within a couple seconds.

>half-brit-half-jeet slag
>hideous neggress that is notably not good-looking even for black standards
>obvious cripple
"...to challenge and push perceptions on beauty"
And these actresses (publicly) act smug about getting cast in those movies.
Like, how are they not ashamed for being called "political weapon-grade ugly" in front of the millions? Are they delusional and oblivious that millions consider those persons unfit for the role of a lead actress and recognize they are shoe-horned by the few for political reasons and therefore despise them? Or do they actually co-enjoy insulting the goyim together with the director and co.?
I mean, what's happening is

Not that guy, but you have to be retard to think nolan isnt a hack after everything he did past 2010.
He takes good idea, develop it in most retarded way (for american audience, example: like focusing on shootouts in a movie about dreamscape, to the point when its a constant sige in favor of exploring and focusing on onirysm) and edit it to make his movies more difficult to understand, so all the midwits can feel like a movie critic/buff, while the plot is very easy to follow, its just needlesly overcomplicated via spliting scenes/chronological order of things/editing.
He understood this trick with memento and he keeps doing this since then.
I respect him for few of his old movies, the fact that he hates phones and seem to be driven by craft. Unfortunely it dont make him a master. Nolanfags largely consist of 100iq hamericans that think they expirience something grand while its a laud spectacle that tries to charm you with cheap tricks and overcomplication of normal plot.

You are not getting it at all, not even a tiny bit. It has nothing to do with other people's races. It has happened so many times, throughout multiple movies. I don't even understand the point of your reply either. It's not slightly related to anything written by other people as well. You either have ideas that aren't consistent, or you're confused. I'm telling you, this has nothing to do with "racialism".

>discovery of what exactly?
If your frame for interacting with art is race, you're talking about race instead of e.g. character development. I'm not making a complicated point here. You are discussing the race of the actors instead of the content of the film because you aren't interested in the content of the film. You aren't interested in how Odysseus grows as a character because Lupita Nyong'o was cast as Helen. You aren't interested in the resolution of his battle for autonomy against the gods. You aren't interested in the idea that the Greeks might have been the Sea Peoples and what that says about modern society. You aren't interested in any of those things because...

There's no room for it. Because everything you interact with is already written in the visual language of skin color. It totally precludes everything else.

That's what I meant about racialism being boring. The film is already precluded by your a priori beliefs on race. Racialism is such that anything but race is irrelevant.

And yes, I'm sure you would like to pretend that it's actually culture or whatever, but you're not talking about culture. You're not talking about the film at all. You're just talking about race race race. Always just race. It's fucking boring kek

Nolan is a solid director, but none of his movies have connected for me. They have these high brow concepts and themes, but they lack that certain something that would elevate them above an 8/10. They're full of philosophyslop that takes you out of the experience because this is not how real characters would ever talk.

Ridley Scott, Spielberg, Scorsese, Peter Jackson, George Miller, Paul Verhoven all have at least one 10/10 near perfect flick under their belt. Nolan has none.

It seems like the point you're making not only has a lot to do with race, but that it's exclusively about race. In fact, I see literally nothing in this post about anything BUT race. The brief point you make about historicity is itself in the context of race. Race, race, race. Nothing to say about the film itself; everything to say about race.

Maybe my post about racialism might make a little more sense to you now?

Yes, because unfortunately it works on a not-insignificant amount of the Western market. You have to launch simultaneous 'We are Based' and 'We are Woke' campaigns these days for optimal results. Film, games, etc. are not really what the audience want, they just want fuel to keep 'fighting'

In the height of irony, even Argus has a concrete character arc in the Odyssey. It's thin because, well, he is a dog... but even the dog has a desire and a drive he fulfills: to see Odysseus one more time before he dies. He's abused and broken and lays on a fucking dung pile for most of the film, all to see Odysseus one last time.

adherence to the truth and to reality is important in western (white) nations. maybe that is a racial thing, seeing as how you think it's stupid. Was Neil Armstrong a queer black woman? Should a movie about him be accurate? Why not landing on Mars? There is a proverb called "for want of a nail". It's meaning will be lost on your atrophied marxist brain.
>>
>>540054922
>Film, games, etc. are not really what the audience want, they just want fuel to keep 'fighting'
Did you even watch the film? The strongest cultural theme in Nolan's adaptation was what fighting wreaks. It's the moral core of his take on the Odyssey. Odysseus violates the strongest moral code of the time by tricking the Trojans into accepting his ruse under the guise of peace. He then unlocks the gates of Troy and the Greek army storms the city, killing essentially everyone.

Nolan's addition to the canon is the idea that Odysseus didn't come home precisely because of what he did. The film ends on almost exactly the opposite note to "fuel to keep fighting." He says that the Greeks, despite their unprecedented civilization and advanced culture, decided to fight pointless wars over trivial subjects. They wrecked the homeostasis of an entire civilization. At the end of the film, the "high note" is that someday, even if writing itself becomes a lost art as a consequence of their ceaseless fighting, people in the future might forget the evil they did.

This is, of course, a totally false hope. We still remember and process the story of the Odyssey and the Trojan War.

>>
>>540054814
Anon, I literally told you it has nothing to do with other people's races. It's just her, the woman who always has been depicted as a beautiful, attractive person. Lupita Nyong'o does not belong to the phenotype described in tons of portrayals. You still do not get it. This has nothing to do with mocking people for how they appear. This is criticizing the director for specifically choosing a black woman out of every blonde woman that perfectly fit the classic portrayal of Helen of Troy. This is not about races. This is about choosing wrong people for the right illustration.

You are also missing the big picture here. It is indirectly about races, because how else would you be any different as in phenotypes? Are you opposing the basics of biology? It's not like we have major differences in genetics, which points to the fact nobody is inherently superior to other people from the beginning. Again, it's a cultural matter, and there's no good intention about portraying white people as black and the opposite and so on. It's a cultural thing that Helen of Troy was white, and opposing it would be opposing the very culture that made the epic thrive.

>>540055465
Honestly, I don't think it's bait.

>>540055564
