But the movie keeps him just within relative norms, albeit a psycho murderer. But he just has normal sex and hits girls with wire hangers. >>540057801I'd suggest reading Less Than Zero. Much shorter and easier to digest than AP. The movie came out in 1987 but it was watered down to a story of young adult angst. The book has it all lain out. Including casual child rape. None of the books deal with politics or power directly, they're social portraits. Which is more valuable imo.

>>540058782you never feel pity for him in the book. also: it's impossible to bring the book to the screen because of things like how he spends forever detailing his daily beauty routine: every product, exactly how he applies it, how much it cost, what it does and why he chose it etc etc etc. it works really well in the book but movie audiences would get bored because movies are less immersive than books.there's a section with a U2 concert that made me really think everything really is in this guy's head and he's way more fucked up (in a mental illness way not necessarily just an evil way) than i even thought.if you want the real American Psycho experience you have to read the book.the movie is fine, but it's maybe 20% of where the book went.
