pretty much OBEY THE LAW: THE PEOPLEin other countries, a natural balance is reached between the masses and the state, with the two adjusting to each other dynamicallykoreans live for the state (north) or live for their job (south) or live for kpop celebs (south again)individualism never managed to take root there
>>540132459from the end of ww2 until the 1980s korean economy exists to provide goods to the US militiary who needed items produced and sourced locally instead of shipping everything from the USA.the large conglomerates almost all started providing goods to the US Army. samsung started as a cow/beef supplier to the US Army even though koreans themselves were practically starving.japan was later able to produce a lot of the things the US militiary needed, but by that time the korean factories and companies were set up and developing. again with samsung because they do everything, they can build you a bridge because the were required to build bridges in korea, build you an apartment block because they were required to build them for staff. they started as complete supply chain for US bases in korea and then expanded into supplying korea and later when electronics became the global industry, the supplied the world. it is also an inhospitable place with good growing seasons. they are tough people who require strictness because if you fuck around in the good times, the bad times will kill you.
