Isn't it curious how right wing populism began to sweep the world in successive waves beginning right around the time that the global economic balance began to tilt towards the eastern center of gravity?

That it spread like a wildfire, emerging in the primary western power centers - the initial spark fanned by rogue press running dissident politicians and gradually restructuring the right until securing legitimacy at the highest levels - before restructuring the political apparatus and expanding the wave to developing countries via international mechanisms and levers, reining in contested vassals between two poles?

The narrative suggests it was organic pushback against progressivism gone mad, economic discontent with the establishment status quo, financial instability, perennial wars, mass immigration. Those were all parallel, contemporary trends. But perhaps, too, these were all setbacks to meaningfully and coherently reckoning with a grander strategic chessboard, line items which needed to be remediated first.

The cultural-political movements of the 1960s had the fingerprints of the western order's key stakeholders - the agents which transcend political cycles and short-termist financial-economic scruples - all over it. It is now becoming somewhat well-understood that it was the shadow of a hearts-and-minds front of the great geopolitical rivalry of that era. That is perhaps the closest, albeit somewhat inverted, analogue to what we may have been observing for the past two decades, and especially the past ten years.

I think the chess game is in full swing now.

I like big butts and I cannot lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, want to pull up tough
'Cause you noticed that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get wit'cha
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that butt you got makes (me, me so horny)
Ooh, Rump-o'-smooth-skin
You say you want to get in my Benz?
Well, use me, use me
'Cause you ain't that average groupie
I've seen her dancin'
To hell with romancin'
She's sweat, wet
Got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette
I'm tired of magazines
Sayin' flat butts are the thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back
So, fellas (yeah) fellas (yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt? (Hell yeah)
Tell 'em to shake it (shake it) shake it (shake it)
Shake that healthy butt
