In Finland almost all public discourse, especially in terms of anything related to geopolitics and European politics is based on us thinking what do other people think of us. While a Spaniard will just throw waste down the mediterrinian and write that everything is okay, Finns will personally go out of their way to follow the most stricest interpretation of EU laws. If Finland gives international commitments, it will be the last one to back out from them.

Everyday lives are formed around silly laws like compost inspectioners, where the state has hired people to inspect your composts and they have the right to go to your house and inspect your compost. If they think you are doing it wrong, they can notify you about it and its a big shame if that happens. A lot of the punishment in this country is also based on, not really criminally punishing you, but putting the label of a criminal on you and then the justice systems job is to give you some punishment and the goal of it all is to make the criminal think to themselves that they did wrong and they would do better next time. The country is not built around people who do not have any shame.

If the whole Europe turned nazi tomorrow we would be the first ones to turn up the gas chambers even though yesterday we were taking a dick in the ass. Its that kind of culture.
