It’s a common sentiment that Western nations (in particular Western/Northern Europe plus Anglo countries that are not the US) are the best places to be women. While this could be true in terms of legal protection and economic/employment prosperity, I feel like it gets even murkier when social/cultural prestige is factored. It’s easy to draft a law, but to radically shift traditions in the long term is a whole other can of worms.

One thing that seems to still be prevalent in the West to this day, or specifically in the Anglo world (Quebec specifically outlawed this), is the tradition of wives changing of surnames to their husbands. I always envied the traditional Iberian/Latin American naming convention where not only women keep their names, but it gets passed on to their children. Arab, Chinese, and Korean women seem to keep their surnames after marriage as well.

What is this fucking bangladesh? What a ridiculous name for a country, the sound of the word itself gives off the feeling of a joke.

Because it's more jarring to see a Takanashi Williams and Xinhuang Jones than it is to see their actual names. Their kids would probably get treated better if they didn't have white last name while not being white. And spics have a different issue where they combine their names into some long abomination.

Is retarded, because a woman's last name is just her dads name anyway

Wives used to be referred to as Mrs David Jones or Mrs Simon Smith, etc. That seems to have ended, idk when. You still see it in old documents.

I actually quite dislike this. Back in the day it used to be the standard, but now it's practically illegal even if a woman wants to adopt her husband's last name. There was a case with a ukranian woman who married a local and in the government hearing she had to argue the war in Ukraine left her ostracized and took a toll on her mental health having a slavic last name. She initially only wanted to change it to get married.

If I could decide we would just get rid of the estate names completely and call everyone with some kind of patronym. Not to larp older times but because I genuinely think it's a good and equal system, you can even make woke versions for them if you have to.

They do change their last names. They hyphenate them. Which is very similar to the Anglo tradition of making the maiden name the middle name. Hispanics just don't have middle names. And that's exactly why they hyphenate them. The other Anglo tradition in showing the mothers family respect is very often in naming the first male (or one of them) the mothers surname.

ThesWeSt hasn't realised yet that women's rights is a jewish trap that leads to the destruction of man and womankind at once. That's where I think we are lagging behind.

That's a totally different type of confusion and not at all related. It's one thing to have a class full of Jasons, as I did in grade school.. .it's another thing for the Jasons to all have different naming protocols...all of them having to deal with the annoyance of a hyphenated name or for that matter explain why his last name is different from his dad's last name, and same for his mom (and potentially his siblings). It's just a system that was settled on long ago. And not that long ago, people didn't move around. So there wasn't even the thought of the mothers family fading into obscurity. They were right there. Everyone knew who the brides family was.
None of this stuff was designed to deprecate the importance of the woman. The understanding of marriage, and in all ways (legally, spiritually and physically) was as if the two were literally made one flesh. The two of them form a single entity. Now, that union is obviously composed of two parts; but the law, customs and clergy conceives of it, and it as, one.
To this day, couples file jointly, but there is a head of household designation. That is how the law treats it too. In fact, it wasn't even as it men only were given the vote. That's why spouses don't have to testify against each other in court. That vote was seen to be that of the whole household, cast by the man. Which has the designated role of "head of household".
It's sad that people no longer even look at marriage like that...so much so, they can't even understand why things are the way the way they are and how they got that way. The modern view is that it was a system specifically designed to oppress women. No, quite the opposite, it was to protect them. There were not a lot of ways for women to provide for themselves back then...and by back then I mean to right up until the age air conditioning and automobiles were invented.
In fact, if anything, the rest of the world has a lot of lessons to learn from us. Or maybe not. Lol.

If the kid gets the mother's name and not the father's it just appears as if the father isn't recognizing them, the child as his own

I met my wife when she was a 17 yo virgin, and she took my last name. Our three kids carry my last name. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Marriage benefits women mostly. Men risk a lot getting married. When a woman starts playing dumb feminist games, bleating about about equality, when the arrangement most certainly benefits her more and she has much less to lose in case things go wrong, thats a sign to run. Any woman that wont take your last name isn't worth marrying. Especially if she isn't even a virgin. Then you're really retarded if you marry that.
