Professor John Maersheimer’s second YouTube channel video just dropped.

The way he's phrasing it means that a guy like Trump is never going to do that.

What someone needs to tell Trump is that he won. That Iran's missile launchers have been destroyed. So have their bases. That even their bridges going to China have been destroyed and that they came begging for a deal.

And that's it, he can pound his chest and call it a win and quietly withdraw and hope it gets forgotten about.

Trump has been doing that (over 45 times already) yet his subconscious knows that it isn’t true. Nobody believes it, not the Americans, not the Iranians, and most importantly, not Bibi.
Trump is in a very difficult situation for someone that cannot admit losing yet also cannot win.

What's the /pol/ QRD on this guy? Why should I hate him?

it's an interesting point
but admitting defeat in iran will mean the US can't defend Taiwan
I'm not sure they can stomach that. that suggests an escalation.
I don't even think Democrats will abandon the war given the consequences of a loss. Israelis knew this when the pushed Trump into it.
desu full on WW3 seems more likely than the US accepting defeat here.

He’s an American expert on international relations (specifically the school of offensive realism). He’s controversial because he doesn’t believe in the idealism of international institutions such as the UN (not that he is anathema, he just says that they are useless) and he believes that every country that is powerful enough to have a sphere of influence has the rational desire to have one.NAFOtroons and Zionists hate him. Oh, and he is on the bad guy list for exposing the Zionist Lobby a book he wrote in the 1990s.
People accuse him (without evidence
) of being Russian asset despite the fact he defends U.S. rights as a world power and the fact he was a U.S. Air Force officer.

He's a significant figure in International Relations because he is the father of the school of Offensive Realism. But like many limelight-friendly academics he often comments on things outside his wheelhouse or makes future predictions that don't come true, so he comes off like a crank at times.

Read "The Tragedy of Great Power Politics" for the gist of his ideas. It's worth reading, but if he's commenting on current events it's pretty safe to ignore what he says

That happened ONCE, when he stated that Russia wouldn’t invade because it wasn’t in Russia’s interest.

I love him to bits and follow him everywhere he goes.
That an aside, his view does sound crazy coming from people who dont understand what realism is and what classical geopolitics are. There is a reason why mearsheimer likes to joke that when speaking in China, people there would say he is more chinese than them.
That being the case, you always want to actually understand why he is saying things he is saying. The fact of the matter is, the world still works in a multipolar world, that the US is no longer the world hegemon, and that the people who brush him off oft times still think in the lens that americans can just bully every country in the world without consequence. Basically if you are a history buff, or play tons of HOI4/VIC3, youd love this guy. I fell in love with reading history from following him
