I've noticed people are simply using the letter N to substitute for a word widely considered beyond-the-pale offensive. ("Nigger.") It seems like, as this happens more and more, the letter N will become almost as offensive as the which it stands in for. (Again, "nigger.") I'm pretty sure that, if I called a black person an "N," they would react just as if I called them that word. (Need I repeat, the word is "nigger.")
