In the US you do not have to even take a driving test at license renewals and they are good for 8 years at a time.But the issue really is the burden of elderly care shifting from the family to the state. The government is too afraid of losing votes to crack down on the old. And once they are too old to care for themselves then the government can extract their retirement savings and social security payment to give money to the healthcare system. I do not have a family or children so if I ever have those my opinion may change but when I get old I want to have my inheritance properly planned, property planned to be sold, funeral or cremation paid and planned, etc and then kill myself. I've had elderly family go to retirement homes for a few years and it seems dreadful. You have family visit once a week if you are lucky and other than that you lay in bed or sit in a chair watching television all day. Just being kept alive to extract money and when you get too expensive then they fancily call it hospice and you die. I would rather be remembered for at least building a little bit of wealth to pass on rather than what I've had to deal with after my family died of months or years of legal issues before everything is settled and done being in debt from dealing with everything. Just seems like a better end to life to end it on my own terms with everything settled rather than being a reminder of last visit on a calendar and to visit so hopefully you aren't written out of the inheritance.

My FIL is age 91. He still passes his annual road and rules checks as well as his physical. No eye correction except for close up reading. A bit of an aggressive driver, FIL apnd those like him should be tested and continue to drive. I'm still riding with him.
I think people under the age of 25 shouldn't drive and neither to auto insurance companies. -- In many states, people over 65 are required to renew their licenses more frequently than those younger so the DMV can spot the ones who shouldn't be on the road.

If you drive safely, maintain your car, don't drive while drinking, smoking weed, or frankly taking any of the wide variety of silly pills they feed women these days, you're good. Also, the ability to understand road signs is key. I drive in South Florida, and encounter twenty drivers destined to kill per day. Very few if any of them are aged.
