There is something inherently valuable about this particular country that multiple world wars and other assorted conflicts have been fought over it for millennia. Despite its relative irrelevance, everyone seems to want a piece of it. After WWII, it was the Soviets. After Soviets fell, it was the West. Now it is inseparable from the European Union. It is as if the Germans, seeking lebensraum, succeeded not by force but by honey.
