A company that makes a marijuana breath testing device is pitching its services to boxing and mixed marital arts (MMA) associations as a way to assess recent cannabis use by fighters.

“Combat sports involve split-second decision making, reaction time, hand-eye coordination, balance, situational awareness and athlete safety,” Cannabix Technologies Inc. said in a press release. “Unlike traditional specimen testing that can detect cannabis use long after potential effects have subsided, breath-based THC testing is designed to focus on recent use closer to the time of competition, training or incident review.”

Attendees at the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports’s annual conference in Orlando will hear a 30-minute presentation about the Cannabix device on Tuesday.

The event is aimed at combat sports regulators, athletic commissioners, referees and other stakeholders involved in professional boxing, MMA and other combative sports.

Cannabix describes its Marijuana Breath Test as a rapid and “non-invasive” way to detect recent use of cannabis as a growing number of jurisdictions within the U.S. and internationally enact legalization laws and as “athletic commissions and sanctioning organizations are increasingly faced with the challenge of balancing athlete rights, public safety and competitive integrity.”

Rav Mlait, Cannabix’s CEO, said that “combat sports regulators and athletic commissions are looking for practical tools that improve athlete safety while addressing the realities of evolving cannabis laws.”

“Engaging the Marijuana Breath Test directly with this audience allows us to reach potential end users, demonstrate the value of recent-use breath testing and advance discussions around real-world deployment,” he said.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) removed marijuana from its banned substances list for athletes in 2023
>Also in 2024, officials in Nevada, where many combat sports events are held, adopted a rule change that will protect athletes from being penalized for using or possessing marijuana in compliance with state law.

who cares if you fight stoned?
>>
Is marijuana supposed to give some kind of competitive advantage now or something? Sounds dumb
>>
>>540232624
it's like Jackie Chan in Drunken Fist. You get stoned and then suddenly you are a savant at martial arts
>>

Alcohol is considered performance enhancing in competitive shooting as it can steady your hands and slow your breathing
A stoned person might be able to take more punishment but that is just me speculating
>>

this
weed is not a performance enhancing drug
>>
>>540232624
it's an analgesic

How fucking retarded do you have to be to give a shit about anyone using cannabis. Only (((they))) and asians hate it. This device obviously is useless, and the company is a shell.

Based reality.

Probably the alcohol/online casinos that sponsor fights. Youre less likely to piss away all your money if you have THC in your system. They dont want marijuana use normalized.
>>
Preferably you don’t want anyone intoxicated on anything in a fight, especially a professionally sanctioned one.

I think this is kinda chicken/egg, your hands shouldn't be shaking unless you're an alcoholic in withdrawal

It's weird it can either make pain more acute but yes most of the time it helps me localize pain and realize it's only a temporary and block it out
I was high as fuck as a nationally ranked wrestler in hs. Like literally go puff after school then be back for the tourney blazed and pin my opponent. Only problem is all that smoking and winning so fast kills your endurance haha.

Also if Arnold smoked weed after his weightlifting sessions that trumps any argument these niggers have to ban it

Cannanis and Alcohol are rather similar, just a different chemical.
Cannabis affects endo-cannabinoids, alcohol effects GABA.
Endo-cannabinoid flow state is a thing, and it's more stable than the Ballmer peak.
And yes they are both analgesic to an extent.
Inhaling smoke is the bigger problem with Cannabis more broadly, can't imagine an athlete wanting to do that ever.

Nah bro my hands shake like crazy naturally. Haven't drank in a long time.

My guitar teacher in college for exams was the coolest mother fucker. He saw I was on edge and I was a Jr(21) so he gave me a glass of wine before my exam. I absolutely killed it compared to my shaky ass nerves before that.

My dad's a teetotaler and his shake more than mine!

He had the coolest stories
He was collecting royalties 20 yrs later from Brazil for the classical guitar music he wrote
He had so many inside scoops on the industry. Nobody big-time does drugs anymore he said, way too much money I it to risk.
I wish I could go on but i gotta get to work
>>
>>540233873
Tell that to Michel phelps

The UFC and boxing is kindergarten playfighting. Nothing about it is serious, just do the damn drugs and forget that you're playfighting with another shirtless man.
>>

Unlike boxing, which is a full-contact sport that relies heavily on awareness, reflexes, and the ability to see and react quickly, swimming is a completely different discipline. Phelps is a swimmer, and having partially numb muscles in a combat sport is a major disadvantage and something that should be avoided.

Weed at a low dose enhances performance, weed at high doses fucks you up. It's all about neural activation and numbing.

i was already getting excited because i misread that. i thought they were gonna put marijuana breath ventilators in every corner and have them inhale marijuana air between rounds. i guessed its to help them recover better. would have been better than this nonsense
