i'm not an economist so pardon me if this isn't actually a good idea, but couldn't the US govt save trillions and trillions of dollars that would otherwise be spent on healthcare programs by subsidizing the cost of GLP-1 drugs so that they are completely free for everyone with a BMI over 30 (or 25), thus eliminating obesity in america and eliminating the need to spend trillions on treating the health conditions associated with it?obviously it wouldn't save money in the short term, but i feel like in 50 or 100 years this program could massively decrease healthcare expenditure (or more accurately because of inflation, stop it from rising)what do you think?
