You don't know what questions were asked, dipshit.

>>109472960
I was arguing in Reiser's favor and unhappy Linux has been taken over by corporates and Reisers code was removed. And it was removed because of what he did: when the hackers ran linux his code stayed in. Now Linux brags that not one line of hacker code exists in the Kernel anymore.

No hackers are allowed in Linux anymore.
I wanted RMS's take on that.

Also Reiser's file system worked till the very night it was deleted. It needed no "maintance". His code was that of steel: unbreakable.

Additionally "maitiance" was never the deal. During the hacker days if a Linux Kernel fuck ruined some other code: he had to fix it or his patch would not go in due to regression. The other people who contributed code were not demanded to fix previously working code they made when other shitheads broke it on them.

Linux was greatful for hacker code.
Now it bans all hacker code: and claims it never needed any of it.
(even though since 0.01 it was all hacker code until the Linux Foundation and Microsoft and IBM took over)

reiserfs was fuckin badass and fast. It handled small files a lot better than your vanilla filesystems that come outta the box. Stallman has a point. Its a viable filesystem that its creator is tied to some kind of felony. That doesnt discredit his creation. ZFS though

It was a good file system. Ext2 was worse than fat32: fsck took forever, and sometimes was unrecoverable. Linux after ReiserFS was usable on laptops which helped it a lot. That’s why Hans was a hero to opensource people back then. It took tears for ext3 to come out and be supported and it was never as fast.
Linux got to boast back then in the days of reiserfs that it had a journaling file system while windows at that time had not. (At least the versions everyone used)

With the amount of censorship on the net it is functionally impossible.
When Linux was made there existed uncensored central forums that anonymous programmers could speak to each other on: these included slashdot with its anon coward feature, lkml itself which was unmoderated, and various other forums and mailing lists. Freedom of speech was the rule and under these conditions opensource and free software from hobbiest programmers thrived.

Now all of that is gone. Slashdot was bought out multiple times and removed the anon coward feature. The LKML is heavily moderated. Virtually all hosting sites push code of conducts and ban for speech code violations. The rest of the forums are under heavy censorship or just gone. There is no possibility of hobbies programmers easily finding each other and just programming. At every corner there are seething non programmer trans-moralists like the guy saying he’ll send police to my house on this thread because he doesn’t like what I say. All programmers have to deal with such zoomers now.

So that is why forking is difficult now: you can fork but no one will know it. Obviously it cannot be done by one person.

However if it is desired that there be a Linux that is in C and is thus usable on many architectures: and not only the latest intel (Rust) : yes the kernel will have to be forked for that to be accomplished. It isn’t easy due to the very heavy censorship and barriers to entry which didn’t exist in 2000

Most people who got into it started out with games or modding them or wrighting little ones; and then branched out to making hardware work with their OS of choice so they could play various games.
>>
>>540279357
For the hobbiest programmers it didn’t discredit his creation (reiser file system): however all hobbiest programmers and their code has been removed from the Linux kernel and that is now a point of pride amongst the kernel team that has replaced the hobby programmers that preceded them. This newer group is completely leftist-identitarian. They have removed every vestige of the programmers who worked on Linux since version 0.01 back in 1990.
>>
>>540279357
It was bad-ass. This angers zoomers though like >>540278619
They revile ReiserFS and wish to shut down any discussion of the ethos of the previous pre-corporate version of Linux that thousands of regular hobby programmers developed from its inception in early 1990 till their ejection from the project somewhere around 2017 to 2019. This was then followed by the removal of all hobbiest programmers from nearly all opensource projects via codes of conduct: many of these hobbiests founded and created these projects. They were all taken from them however.

Now opensource abounds with beg-ware, forced pushing of trans and other ideologies having no relation to programming software, and mass banning of any programmer who doesn’t obey these rules. Also Rust infecting many formally usable on any architecture C projects.

Free Software was once the triumph of the home computer programmer: the MIT hacker and tinkerer (ex: RMS) and the modder wishing to get deeper into editing software systems. There was freedom of speech and the programmers were respected. It was their thing.

That exists no longer.
It is primarily due to censorship, banning, siloing: and a very hostile zoomer cadre that is willing to enforce these things against all the generations that came before them.
>>
>>540275991
>it worked until didn't
Yes you dipshit. Things break between major Linux versions.

Stop bothering RMS with shitty polchud questions. He's the head of the FSF, not Linux, he has nothing to do with the Foundation's retarded decisions and, as he already told you, he doesn't know nor care about retarded polchud drama.
>>
TLDR: hobbiest programming did well as opensource and free software when there was no censorship or filtering on the web: and when there were locations that those interested in the hobby could congregate without penalty or censure.

That exists no longer.
The “reproductive cycle” of free software and opensource was targeted and destroyed successfully. The critical and required elements for such grass roots hobby software to thrive were identified and ripped up.

That is why opensource is in the state that it is in: the people that made it were identified and separated.
>>
>>540275991
>hacker
You're using common terms with your own definition. 0/10 faggotry, stop being cute and speak English, stop wasting people's time. They cute out a murderer's contributions because he was a murderer because of image instead of "the code is all that matters." "no hackers are allowed in linux anymore" is pouty bullshit, it's a matter of selective image enforcement as they continue to allow pedophiles, trannies and whatever else through the door, you're just butthurt reiserfs got pulled.
>>
>>540282932
ReiserFS actually never broke. So you are misinterpreting the issue, seething zoomer. It worked until it was : while working: removed.

I have been emailing Richard Stallman and discussing with him since before you knew how to read; zoomer. I will converse with people as I see fit. You do not even remember a time before the Linux Fpundation. Nor do you remember how we all thought it would fund Linux and bring it to new heights for the hobby programmers. It did not do that. It spends only 3 percent of its funds on Linux: the rest is for other businesses. This is the same in all the foundations that have grown up around opensource. Where in each case the program existed before the foundation. They are used simply to control and conquer what once was freely developed hobbiest software. And to dictate who “gets” to contribute. Which was not the case before.

All the hacker contributed code that made up all of Linux has been removed. Reiserfs being the very last piece. Now Linux is regressing in architecture support, regressing in performance, regressing in stability, regressing in security (ex no Grsecurity or pax), and regressing in freedom.

Linux development used to follow the whims and whimsy of the hobbies developers. It knew of no law other than if one can think it one can perhaps implement it. Now any statutory requirement is dutifully enforced without even a challenge in court.

It is not the same as it was.
The people aren’t the same.
Their values are not the same.
The code isn’t the same.
The features are not the same.
It is a controlled corporate product now.
It was, once , the triumph of the common man programmer; now it is used as a monument to shame him.

fork and do your own hosting, those are the tools provided, you have to come up with the funds to keep it operating, so make a big wad of money, have it produce passive income big enough to float the bill, that's what it takes. whining about it does nothing.
>>
>>540283299
>u r just mad thing u like was destroyed!
Notice how the seething zoomer thinks this is unreasonable.

And in the programmer world hacker means exactly what it sounds like: a hack. Not the best programmer but serviceable: just keeps hacking at that tree till he gets it down. Try’s things. Not professional.

Means the same as it does in wrighting: as programming is wrighting

This website: 4chan: was cobbled together with PHP code in 2003. A hack job if ever there was one: not by a professional programmer or engineer but by a code hacker kid named m00t after he got thrown off something awful forum.

The first step in anything is to realize the problem. You tell us all not to talk at all.

Not to notice and report what we see. On slashdot 25 years ago people didn’t say shut up be quiet host your own internet: they furiously debated every facet of software, hardware, and cultural effects of various types of development.

I lived that. You did not.
There is intense censorship everywhere now and people like you shouting “make your own this and that” and then you ban anyone that attempts it.

The fact is these times now are not the same as then.
And Linux kernel due to rust will be a recent-intel-only project soon.
If there is a desire to continue with other architectures then a fork is required.
You say “go do it yourself and shut up” to derail any discussion about actually gathering up the programmers to accomplish this. Just as your ilk shout down Xlibre and the like.

As for forking: I have made various from scratch programming projects and forked some. I do not use GitHub. My time predates that. So I’ve done it. For 25 years. First Perl , then C etc.

For forking Linux a consensus amongst sufficent hobby programmers is needed: and to do that the problems with the current situation needs to be enunciated and debated.
>>
>>540283897
In all that you didn't mention the biggest part, paying for the hosting, that's the whole ball game. He who has the gold makes the rules. That's what you're complaining about instead of addressing the obvious, getting the gold to make the rules because you don't like the rules of the current gold holders.
>>

>No hacker code
LMAO there went all their security related code. Those kernals are gonna turn into hacker paradise.
>>
>>540283463
They cannot block forking or reforming of groups who will work on their own forks like Steam OS. Not to mention with the loss of hacker code that provided the best safeguards they are all gonna get absolutely assraped by the hackers. Hacker coded security software was and always is the absolute best you can get for security. Open source was unique in that it actively encouraged hackers to partake and help support it. With the foundations removing that VITAL code, they've spread their ass cheeks for poundtown, courtesy of every hacker out there, on sheer principle alone. They're toast and won't be able to defend themselves from the hacks ever again. The forks that allow hacker code will be safe as usual. There is just no way they can possibly keep out all those hackers. There is a reason why so much critical infrastructure and even glownigger systems themselves discreetly used opensource systems.
>>
>>540283648
Moot ripped the site code from 2chan thanks to a friend who helped him get the code. Otherwise correct. He did have to tinker with it afterwards.

>>540283897
Look if what you said is true. Talk to the old homemade internet guys from around the time of Snowden who built the software but not the hardware for a new internet infrastructure. They are finally getting close to getting the homebrew hardware they need to get their projects off the ground.

Otherwise you still have the dark net hacker enclaves. Including anonymous collective aligned that aren't about to take it laying down and are loaded from their hacking and crypto whaling. Admittedly you might have to go fishing for the bigger ones in Asia but they have old infrastructure, code, and experience dating back decades since Anonymous targeted the CCP by breaking their Great Firewall.

Hobbyists are hobbyists. They will go wherever the hardcore crowd plans and congregates. With them pushing out, the hackers' chances are they are gonna rally around the hackers for safety. Hackers aren't about to take it laying down or abandon their projects not to mention all that code they also need and use every day. It's a matter of life and death for those guys.

Meanwhile /pol/ isn't like what it was during old /pol/; hardly any oldfags are around who still remember the global golden hacker era of Anonymous. Things have changed a lot since the big Western crackdown since Chanology and the endless war against the CCP in the East. Nowadays its more focused on Decentralized Leaderless Resistance following the replanning and rallying after all the casualties, v&ing and targeting by glowniggers. There are hardly any oldfags from that era left; even oldfags from the /pol/ debates era are scarce.
>>

I can brake it down further, simplest setup, self hosting, paying for a domain($20/yr,) internet access($840/yr fiber,) & electricity(20c/hr x24x365=$1752,) $2612/yr /8% return = 32.65k principle, 3x best practices to keep the lights on in market down turns & inflation coverage = $97.95k. Work out real world usage of the project at scale to calculate hosting requirements and investment size need to cover at scale.

I never thought I would see trotskism applied on programming. This is a textbook case of communist subversion, which is actually a basic jewish subversion tactic going back to the antique, with christianity being the first well known example, although there were surely now forgotten cases before.
>>

A server that consumers 100 watt is going to consume 876 KWH per year which is $175 dollars at 20 cent per KWH. I mean, even if you up the server consumption to 200 watt its going to be less than 400 dollars per year. You would need a high speed internet connection though for all the downloads. That is a highly variable cost depending on where you live.

You can offload file hosting by hosting torrents and asking participants to donate bandwith. Its not as expensive as you think it is, which is how it originally got started, in an age where the technological level was much inferior to what it is now.

>>540292956
The point isn't to say how expensive, whatever the break down is, that's what you have to come up with to cover running cost and in a passive income way, and the biggest point, you pay for it you set the rules, which is what has happened with corporations taking over and the complaint about their rule changes, the answer is take the corporations place paying for everything and change the rules of how things work back to the way they were/way you want them, he who owns the gold rules.
