The main reason I care about this is because I want more VRAM to run local models. However, local models are garbage compared to the frontier models that we can basically use for free, so what is the point? Even if everything were at the old prices it would still cost thousands to build a PC that can do anything useful. You can just pay $20 a month and get access to the tools that would cost tens of thousands of dollars to try to replicate with your own hardware. IMO it's better that the big companies get the RAM and keep letting us use their models at their expense. It's their loss.
