Is anyone else super fucking disappointed with the Russian hypersonic program? Like damn, why didn't they just focus on mass producing these and striking enemy defenses???

They're saving them, and so are the Iranians. What we're seeing right now is the prelude, like the way the Spanish Civil War was the prelude to WWII. These are just skirmishes. The main event is yet to come.

Israel also got it's hands on a Mig-23 from a Syrian defector, they were able to establish all of it's capabilities and how to fight it. I think I said 3rd gen fighters, just as many were second gens like the Mig-21. They had lots of advantages.

>>540316432That's true, that's why they have always relied on airpower and intel. I think it was the 1967 war where they used their air force to pre-emptively attack Egypt (?) and take out their air assets and ground assets first. That pattern persists today.

>>540312645USSR was playing around with hypersonic missiles with mid-course and terminal correction back way long ago, 40 years or more. Their current programs benefit from this long research. Also they build their missiles on a rail 'spine' instead of trying to make a super uber strong tube so they will always win until NATO copies them and starts building missiles according to the same plan. It's just too much for a tube to fly good at those speeds, you need the rail / spine to hold it all together.
